Tremont is pound for pound one of The greatest defenders I’ve ever seen. He is the new Dennis Johnson, potentially..

Wanamaker has been good on the recent road trip and has earned a spot in the rotation. Until tonight he's been pretty consistent, which is one trait of a rotation player that everyone overlooks.  A guy like Edwards makes a couple of shots and everyone here goes nuts saying he's a 'steal'. Then he shoots  0 for 8 his next 2 games.  That type of production from your rotation guys isn't sustainable if you want to be a contending team.  Which is why it's never a great idea for most rookies to be relied upon.
Ainge must have been confident in that shot, because Edwards is a terrible defender and can't pass.

Funny thread.  Me and one or two others were all over waters in the preseason.  I loved the kid!

Now, this is a bit of an overreaction.  Waters played very well under the circumstances but he made some rookie mistakes.

The thing you did see, and what so intrigued me, is that he can pretty much get anywhere on the court he chooses.  Gets by almost any defender at will.  That will come in handy for him.

Wanamaker's basically a superior version of the old Shane Larkin role from a couple years back. Be solid, unspectacular but low-mistakes, and once in a while run off a nice string of plays. Soak up minutes when the rotation is thin.

Waters has a higher ceiling but what NBA-caliber rookie doesn't? No need to overreact to one decent game, just be enthused about it and a little more willing to give him some minutes when a PG is out again. But we don't want to be in a position to depend on him long-term.

I got grilled on here during preseason for daring to remark that I thought Waters was the best ballplayer among the rookies.  I'm not here to serve humble pie. Actually, my point wasn't that he would emerge as the most valuable among them. Just that his skill set all around was the best.  Kid is a ball player.

Last night he gave me flashes of Isaiah Thomas driving to the hole, completing drives over giants.  There will never be another Isaiah circa 2016-17, IMO, but the kid did give me that feeling for a few plays.

What separates Waters from other "little guys" in the NBA is his elite defense.  He is not going to hurt the team, even in mismatches.  His ball pressure is amazing.  Once the refs realize he was defensive player of the year in Southeast Conference (I think Brad reminded them of that last night), he will get the benefit of more calls/non-calls, such as the steal he made on Bogdonovic.

Man I just love this kid's story too.  Only regret is that he is a 2 way contract, and won't be able to  help us in playoffs.

Great game.   He needs minutes.   Those will disappear once Walker (and Hayward) is back.

Leave him where he is for this season.   (unless there is a major PG injury or PG related trade)

He had seven points on 2-7 shooting. He maybe lets relax a little.

There's more to basketball than points and shooting percentage

True.

He can run an offense.

Knows how to drive and finish and knows when to drive and pass.

Yes there is, but my point is we haven't seen enough to justify the statement "Waters NEEDS more minutes." I have no problem giving him a chance, but one okay game doesn't mean he gets a rotation spots no questions asked.

True.

I also think Waters is not needed this season.

It's next season that the Celts will need Waters.

Yep this.  Wannamaker is on a 1 year deal.  Waters will get his roster spot and PT next year.  Barring injury or trade Waters will get the majority of his PT in the D League.

I actually think Wanamaker played well in short stretches we saw him last season.

Tremont Waters is better.

Brad is not a natural PG.

Well duh that's why he's the head coach

they more or less have to.  after the game they were clarifying his playing situation.  As a 2-way player, he can only be with the main club 45 days and then he either has to be signed to a regular contract or he has to be cut loose.  C's are smart enough to make sure he doesn't get close to that 45 day mark just in case they do need him for spot duty later this season.   They're not going to cut someone else on the roster to bring him up nor would they cut him loose.

next year is his time to play on the big club.  bank on it.  no reason to believe Wanamaker won't get a better deal elsewhere that Danny won't match, especially with Waters available.

Absolutely. And he has a real knack on defense for getting into the opposing ballhandler, coming up with steals and deflections and making it tough for his man to go where he wants to go. If TW can avoid getting posted up, his size may not be a serious problem, especially playing on the second unit.

He was +20 yesterday

better than anyone from either team

I would sit Kemba tomorrow and let Waters/Wannamaker duke it out

whoever plays better is the 1st to come off the bench

With Kemba active for tomorrow it looks like Tremont Waters is going back to Maine.

Lack of height. Not overly athletic.
