I'd like to see him get called up, and I want to be on the record early predicting he will have at least a very solid JJ Barea type career.

Thanks.

He will be called up once Wanamaker is gone.

Reason why I proposed trading multiple players for Tristan Thompson is so that the Celtic roster will open up.
Guys like Waters will get a chance to play.

Tremont Waters is very good.
Reminds me of VanVleet.

Trading multiple players away to clear the runway for your two-way contract PG is certainly an interesting approach....

You know they could just assign him to the main team and play him versus the Knicks Friday right?

Seriously, if the Celtics prefer Waters over Wanamaker, they can just cut him whenever.  He’s on a one-year minimum deal.  They don’t need to make a trade to create room.

next season or if Walker is out due to injury

Wannamaker gives the Celts some size at the pg position.  Can help for certain defensive matchups

That's a very harsh thing to do.

Celts wanted Wanamaker back and Wanamaker turned down more money abroad to be with the Celts.
So I think cutting Wanamaker will not look good for the Celtic front office.

Besides, Wanamaker can be used as trade filler when the time comes.

I really don't think DA particularly cares about whether it's harsh or not.

He also doesn't really hold much value as trade filler, considering he's a minimum salary guy who isn't very good

I think it matters if Celts will be trading multiple players for one.

Wanamaker's salary could end up making salaries match.

I've never been a fan of Wanamaker and wondered why we kept a deep end guy for a couple of years.   That being said, he showed a lot of guts getting in front of Giannis the other night on  a play where a lot of guys who have got out the way to avoid the posterizing.   Not Brad, the fouled him 1980s style and arguably might even have been fouled.

I also didn't understand re-signing Wanamaker.

But I think it's fair if the Celts give him until December or January to show what he can do.

Brad must have gotten some assurance from the Celtic front office because he passed up the opportunity to earn more money abroad.

I actually think Wanamaker played well in short stretches we saw him last season.

Tremont Waters is better.

Brad is not a natural PG.

Wanamaker definitely has both playing and trade value. But if it came down to it, and especially if we are about 500 at the deadline, I want to start getting Waters minutes - that's all.

I reaaaally like the dude. And to those people saying Wanamaker provides better defensive cover (with the Giannis example), I would have to contend that overall Waters provides at least as much value defensively as Brad. He is sneaky strong, and lighting quick (doesn't get hung up on screens too much). Maybe there will be cases (simmons, Westbrook) where Brad would have more value, but we would just use Marcus and our swings in those scenarios anyway.

Waters isn’t getting an NBA contract this year.  We could only sign him to a two-year deal.

Wait until the off-season, and we could sign him for up to four seasons.

Wanamaker's salary could end up making salaries match.

Wanamaker can also reject any trade because of his contract status.  He wasn’t signed to be a trade piece.  If the Celtics wanted him to be tradeable, they would have negotiated a deal that included non-guaranteed money next year, giving him a little more guaranteed this year to make up for it, or signed someone else to fill the role that he is, because that player would have been tradeable.  Neither happened, and players in his situation rarely if ever acquiesce to giving up their early Bird rights to facilitate a trade.

Daniel Theis is tradable because the Celtics gave him extra money ($5 million instead of the $2-3 million he might have gotten elsewhere) to get him to agree to a non-guaranteed second year, in essence buying out his right to veto a trade.  This did not happen with Wanamaker, and so you should assume he will not he traded.
