Do we really think Kyrie will suit up against us?

He never did vs Cleveland while he was here.

He did once. He was injured for most of them and he and al rested in others. As we are not a bottom dweller team like the cavs, Id bet he will play.

smart is the perfect defender for kyrie. he would limit him as much as anyone.

key word limit. but really you gotta play team D and force him to take long shots.

waters no, he is too small and kyrie would probably take him downlow.
what doesn't kill you makes you stronger

I'm glad people haven't moved on from what Kyrie did to this team last year.

It helps validate my constant tirades about how Delonte West and Von Wafer were major distractions to the Celtic's team in 2010 to all my friends and family members.

starting a game, I'd use Jaylen but for most of the game, I'd put Smart on him.  it'll drive Kyrie nuts

Nobody can really stop the dude. I like brown with his length. Smart is too fat again, right now.

I think it will be guarding Kyrie by committee. I can see Kemba, Jaylen and Smart taking turns slowing him down some.

But make no mistake about it - Kyrie will come into BOS with fire in his eyes....and for all the boos that I am certain he will get that will only serve to focus him more.

I wouldn't make Kyrie Irving angry - I don't think we'll like him if he's angry.

And I'd be concerned about roughing him up too much - we are going to have our hands full with Durant as well - soon enough.

No dirty fouls but I would NOT dap the dude up before the game. That’s about it. Bigger things than Kyrie now but to me he spit on the Celtics logo. He doesn’t deserve respect from the Celtics players.

Sometimes great players just have a bad string of games.  Even Larry Legend ended the 87 NBA Finals with games shooting 36.8, 38.9, 37.5 (Boston lost that series).  The next year in the ECF (again a loss), Bird shot 35.1% for the series and ended the series with a 4 of 17 night (23.5%) which was coming off a 9 of 25 (36%) night.  Boston lost both those games.  Bird had other games in the series at 30% and 35.3% along with a 40% and a series high 46.7%.  Did Bird quit on the Celtics against the Pistons in 88?

It sucks when it happens in the playoffs, but streaky shooters get cold sometimes.  Them the brakes.

I'm normally all for stats, but I also saw what I saw. He had a bad shooting stretch, but that and "quitting" or "going rogue" or "hero ball" arent mutually exclusive. He shot poorly and when thigs went wrong started do stupid, dumb utterly undefendable things on defense and taking terrible, unforgivable shots.
He always takes terrible, unforgivable shots, he just often makes them.  And he is a bad defender, but no one was guarding Giannis well that series, maybe he though his quickness might actually work since nothing else was working.  Irving is a flawed player, no one should be surprised when his flaws actually present themselves.

So he didn't quit, he's just crazy? Because him believing he can guard Giannis is crazy. This from a self proclaimed basketball genius.
Sometimes weird things like that actually work and it isn't like Boston was even slowing him down using more conventional defenders.  I can't fault the best player on the team for trying to do something different when the best player on the other team was having a field day.  It obviously didn't work, but it isn't like Giannis wasn't doing whatever he wanted against all comers in that series.  He was.

Best way to throw Irving off his offensive game is to make a trade for him and invite him to become the veteran leader of your young team. Then, ask him to live up to public statements he has made leading up to the season and question why it is he might be waffling on his stated intentions. Have the coaching staff and teammates expect him to be a positive leader who lifts his teammates up rather than grinding them down until their confidence is reduced to a mass of confusion. Make sure that one of the younger players speaks up and publicly challenges his criticism, both overt and covert. Have some of the fan base question why he doesn't always attend home games when he is injured - even Conference Finals Game 7's. Then, let the team limp into the playoffs and hope that Kyrie will put the team on his back and win playoff series all the way to the Finals.

Finally - watch as your season-long efforts to placate a self-centered head case result in him blaming your city and your franchise for his unhappiness which motivates him to display three of the most embarrassing and insulting performances in the history of the greatest franchise in the game. You will also get the bonus of watching him talk about how he absolutely could not care any less about the team he is playing for.

Mission Accomplished. You have shut down Kyrie.

Bird's shooting struggles in '87 and '88 were due to injuries and fatigue, not from quitting on his team.
He was not out there jacking up fade-away 3's and purposely sabotaging the defense for his own sick enjoyment.

I feel like Bird was also legendary for his competitive nature whereas Irving is on record saying he doesn't want to play basketball that much cause he is into other things.

I bet my two front teeth that half the threads on here will be Kyrie-related as we lead up to his first game in BOS. ;D

Do we even have to? I don't even think we will meet him in the playoffs.

Thank you Kyrie Irving

Thank you for showing this team what a leader is not.

Thank you for bringing our current team closer. Thank you for being a spoiled brat.
Thank you for going back on your word and not resingning.
Thank God for a real leader in Kemba.

The entire team appreciates each other again.

Maybe we needed to see what a jerk and a coward and very much fake woke person was to truly appreciate winning players again.

Kemba is literally the polar opposite of Irving. A tough, humble, and just an all around great guy. So refreshing. Pleasure to root for the guy.

So again. Thank you Kyrie for showing us how not to conduct yourself you pompous little troll.
