So did the Dr J for Anthony Davis go through then?

I thought that was going to get rescinded.
It did go through, we agreed to the same trade but I read too much into RP's PM about Nick's typo. Sorry for the drama.
I really don't understand that trade.  Why would the team with the player taken a full round ahead of the other player also give up the better draft pick?  That makes no sense at all.  Can someone explain that to me?
Yeah, really can't say I get making that move either.

Agreed.

It doesnt make any sense at all.

Give up the better player and the better pick? Terrible trade.

Please tone down the language a bit.  I think nick explained very early on that he's hoping to avoid drama that can result from harsh language.

Now, in terms of the trade...  I like Anthony Davis next to Kareem, a lot.  I think that's a borderline brilliant front line.  Very few power forwards have shown the skill, range, and defense of Anthony Davis.  Now, he's never matched up against the great power forwards of all-time, either, but his shot-blocking is going to make the interior defense awesome.

And, I didn't like Davis as a center.  Dr. J fits LA really well as a slasher and all-around scorer.

The picks don't make a lot of sense, but let's see whose is taken there.  In a draft this deep, there may not be much difference in terms of talent and fit.

I think a very good trade for both sides would have been Dr. J + 7th rounder for Anthony Davis + 6th rounder.  So, LA does a little better, Dallas does a little worse, but honestly, not a huge difference.

Language?

What language did i use?

I am shocked Harden took this long to go. I thought he would be a 2nd round pick or 3rd round pick (at worst) given his gaudy scoring and assist numbers + how well he does under today's rules. I thought someone might have even taken him as a 1st round pick.

He's very smart and effective at forcing a team's worst defender on to him with screens and then attacking him, like he does with Curry. That effect will be strongly mitigated against the teams without that weak defensive link.

He's a bad defender. He is routinely hidden on bad offensive players which a lot of these teams don't have.

He is significantly better with the ball in his hands rather than off ball. He doesn't cut. If you put the ball in his hands with some of the elite rim runners in this game he'll be very effective. But any other ball dominant players will be standing around and better be able to knock down an open 3.

I don't like him as a player. I don't want him on my team. I generally don't like him as a fit. That said, he can be effective under current rules if you put the ball in his hands and play to his strengths.

I think he was a fine pick here, but didn't expect him to go any earlier than this. I think LeBron, kawhi, curry, Durant, Giannis, Klay, pg13, ant Davis all are better team players for this game. Only one other player today left that I would also consider taking over Harden.

After 6 rounds, here's the 2019 Celticsstrong Historical Draft Detroit Pistons.

It doesn't have the flashiest of superstars, but I'm happy I was able to build a starting five to my liking, and the identity that I want. A tenacious defensive group, and a well balanced team on offense. An unselfish team that fits well together and does not take away the strengths from the other.

Now it's time to shore up the bench.

I'm quite satisfied as to where I'm at. Although it's quite slim pickings for me as far as who I want as a bench unit. Here's hoping I land the guys I have on my board. But for now, I think that's a legitimate starting 5.
2019 CStrong Historical Draft 2000s OKC Thunder.
PG: Jrue Holiday / Isaiah Thomas / Larry Hughes
SG: Paul George / Aaron McKie / Bradley Beal
SF: Paul Pierce / Tayshaun Prince / Brian Scalabrine
PF: LaMarcus Aldridge / Shareef Abdur-Raheem / Ben Simmons
C: Jermaine O'neal / Ben Wallace

Harden would be a perfect 6th man.  He won the award in real life, and his skill set is perfect for it in this format.

I think they're is some flexibility there in that there are still a few capable starting SGs available to plug in the starting five & move Harden to the bench.

However, even keeping Harden in there as a starter, that's a strong team.

Question - probably should've asked this earlier -

How are we grading ourselves? Each other?

Drafting absolute best talent available? Regardless of fit? As I look at our rosters there is ONLY SO MUCH basketball to go around.....

Drafting best Offensive Team?

Drafting best Defensive Team?

Drafting best Overall Team?

I'm also assuming - based on how we've progressed so far - that ANY players from yesteryear are being fast-forwarded to NBA today - which is fine.

It's in the rules. It is just one vote. Rank the 11 teams as best to worse. Rank the conferences. I do the rest and determine who wins each conference and title.

I will release everyone's votes publicly after declaring the winner.

I am toying with the idea of taking votes from outsiders and releasing what non-participants would have had as a winner. Not sure about that yet.

A comment from the commish: I see some of you guys didn't read the rules/draft times like I asked. 😉😋😅😅😅

Jason Kidd is an amazing pick. Great, great defender and a triple double threat.

I’d be very tempted to go:

Ewing
Malone
Bird
Pierce
Kidd

6th man: Tiny

I love this team as a team, not just as a collection of talent.

I would definitely be interested in voting, and I’m sure Dons and 3 or 4 others would be, as well.  Maybe limit outside votes to those who have participated in the thread?

I thought the same thing. Young Tiny as a sparkplug off the bench where he might be able to control the ball more, meanwhile Kidd is dishing and playing amazing defense as a PG who could even switch onto SGs without an issue.

Philly is definitely one of my top 4 teams at this point along with Chicago, Portland and LA. But the separation in quality between teams 3 and 4 and teams 5 through 8 is miniscule right now.
