Celtics with 6(11) select Allen Iverson

I’m curious to see how you’re going to utilize him.

I’m leaning towards using him as a microwave high volume sixth man, but I have to see how the rest of my team shapes up. I couldn’t pass up on the talent at this point.

You certainly have some very...unique...personalities on your squad.

Iverson, Barry, Pippen, Lebron....

Mikan was bigger than everyone else, but was a sub-40% shooter.  I have a hard time projecting him in the modern era.
league average in the 51-52 season was 36.7%.  As I indicated in my prior post, Mikan finished in the top 5, 3 times and was in the top 17 the other 3 times for shooting percentage.  So for his time he was a very efficient shooter.

He has the 3rd best win share season in league history (which ironically is the 1 season the Lakers didn't win the title).  He also has the 10th and 12th best win share seasons in league history.  He has the 2nd, 7th, and 10th best seasons in league history by offensive win shares.  His last 5 years in the league, he led the league in defensive win shares and his best of those seasons is the 22nd best defensive win share season in league history (only 7 players have better seasons - lots of duplication as you might imagine).

In other words, George Mikan was a monster on both ends of the floor.  He was the best player on the best team over the course of 6 seasons (5 of which ended in pay dirt).

He was a monster relative to a bunch of crappy players, though. That doesn’t mean he’d be even average in today’s league.

It’s kind of like trying to project numbers from China. Sometimes they translate, usually they don’t.
There were plenty of great players in the early 50's.  I think you are really underestimating the overall league quality in part because Mikan was bigger than his competition.  But bigger doesn't mean the league is crappy.  And the simple reality is that many of the best centers in league history have had significant size advantages on the vast majority of their competition.  Wilt and Shaq immediately come to mind in that regard.  I get that we've seen them more so it is easier to judge their skill level, but why wouldn't they be held to the same standard as Mikan.  Especially Wilt who continually lost to a team lead by a much smaller man.  At least Mikan and Shaq were winning titles in a league they were physically dominating.

I think Mikan would be something like a bigger stronger but less athletic version of Anthony Davis.  Mikan was 6'10" and like 245.  He wasn't this behemoth of a player.  Coming up today he would have a lot more range offensively, and would fit in just fine.  At least that was my thinking and why I took him.  He was the best player in the league for his 6 year career and he won 5 titles.  It is hard to find a resume much better than that.
2023 Historical Draft - Brooklyn Nets - 9th pick

Bigs - Pau, Amar'e, Issel, McGinnis, Roundfield
Wings - Dantley, Bowen, J. Jackson
Guards - Cheeks, Petrovic, Buse, Rip

Mikan would be listed at 7'0" today due to shoes.

That's a heckua starting 5 you have there.  Lots of fire power plus, arguably, the greatest defensive anchor of all time.

Tommy Heinsohn dropping 15-20 foot hook shots in today's game would get huge crowd reactions and instantly make him a beloved player at home. Giant BBIQ and a fierce rebounder. Tremendous pick.

I am shocked Harden took this long to go. I thought he would be a 2nd round pick or 3rd round pick (at worst) given his gaudy scoring and assist numbers + how well he does under today's rules. I thought someone might have even taken him as a 1st round pick.
