If I were LA, I would want to pair Steph up with another Splash Brother (not literally that guy, just another player of that style of play).  I think that brings the best out of Steph and we know that Steph can bring the best out of that kind of player.  But that might just be a very narrow-minded view by me at first glance.
Your not alone. I was thinking the same thing about Steph. Not that he wouldn't fit in other offenses. He would fit - brilliant at that.

Just something about the freedom of a three point heavy offense and having multiple similar threats stretching .... seems to, I don't know, have an additive effect to each other. Help to bring the best out of Steph.

With pick 4(1) the Chicago Bulls select:

Someone who might start or possibly return to be:

The Best 6th man to ever play!! (One of 4 players to win multiple 6th Man Awards, recorded two of the three highest totals of win shares by a 6th man of the year winner).

3 time NBA champion

One time All-NBA first team

3 time All-Defense first team/ 3 time second

2 All-time appearances on Cheers

The man with the 8’ wingspan and an endless amount of post moves

Kevin McHale

Great pick.  I actually envision him as a bench player on your team and the best 6th man in the league.  Something I never even thought of for him until I saw him on your team.

Anybody care to share if they think McHale would have fit with MJ + Walton?  I was really interested in that for a while, but I feel like McHale's post-heavy style wouldn't be the right fit.

great, great pick

Thanks, I was going back and forth between him and another player, went with McHale for his defense and ability to come off the bench if needed.

McHale would be brilliant next to Walton and MJ.

Walton played a lot in the high post. There is enough room in the paint for a post up player like McHale to operate. And McHale moves in and out of the post -- he is not stagnant like Wilt or Shaq who are lane cloggers -- so he can free extra room for MJ when needed.

I would definitely start McHale. No question about it.

As for Magic and Barkley, they showed in the NBA that they could play well with other great players.  Magic did it his entire career, starting off as a beta before turning into the alpha.  Barkley started off on a team that 3 other HOFers on it, so he learned early on how to play on a great team, before becoming the #1 guy later on in his career.  That carried over into the Olympics for both of them, though that original Dream Team was even an animal unto itself.  There was almost no way that wasn't going to work for the novelty of it alone (plus many of the stars had already won in the NBA).

I think you could use international competition as a sort of tiebreaker, but I wouldn't put much stock in it at all.  Just a different game, with different goals, etc.

Did Barkley really show that?  He played with several all-time greats at different stages of his career and never won a title.  I think he particularly tanked that 97 Houston team.  He was on my DND (do not draft) list unless there was a really particular fit that he could slide into (maybe like yoki's team).
Barkely spent his prime without as much talent.  As for 97, Barkley was on the downturn, but the Rockets were 41-12 with Barkley and 16-13 without him in the regular season.  They made the WCF before falling to the Jazz.  Barkley played fine in that series, even defensively, as Malone was well below his normal output.

Rotation - D. Daniels, Mitchell, G. Wallace, Melo, Noah
Deep Bench - Korver, Turner

I was surprised McHale took so long to get drafted. I thought he usually went higher in drafts on this forum. I had him pegged as a 2nd round pick. Great value to get him this late.

Two player. Dominant post scorer who can score on absolutely anyone (matchup nightmare, mega efficiency numbers). Versatile defensive PF who can guard quick forwards and yet still has the size to defend inside and provide secondary shot-blocking.

There was a question from Utah as to whether he'd have fit there + I got confused!

Brilliant fit next to Duncan. Same reasons.

Barkley had some issues in Phoenix with his PG there. More related to style of play than egos. Barkley wanted to slow it down and iso. The PG needed to speed it up and play fast. They never got the best out of one another as a duo. The PG's best years were pre-Barkley because of this despite being in his prime next to Barkley.

Barkley had some similar issues next to Hakeem (too much iso slow down and iso ball from Chuck + offense didn't run through Hakeem enough anymore). They lost some of their team identity with Barkley despite Chuck being a net positive for them. But Chuck was old by then and had slowed down considerably. I don't read much into that.

I liked how Barkley played as a young player next to those older stars (Doc, Moses) in Philly. Plus, he was brilliant on those Team USA squads and in All-Star games.

Edit
: In Houston, again style of play rather than egos and style of play being exacerbated greatly by age and decline in athleticism. That is why I don't put much much stock in it. A younger Chuck would have fit in better. Plus, Hakeem deserves some blame too.

Malone has his problems in the playoffs-namely his low release point and finishing (he'd flip shots in that other great power forwards of his physical build would hammer home).

That Lakers team looks very different now after acquiring Doc and Cowens.

G: Steph
G: McGrady
F: Dr J
F: Garnett
C: Cowens

Wow, Garnett and Cowens together! That is awesome. I hadn't put 1+1 together until then. The all out effort & intensity of that duo! The help defense and defensive mobility on that backline. The rebounding. The passing. The full court running. Those two together are going to be a nightmare to play against.

TRADE:

Dallas sends Julius Erving and 6(5)
Los Angeles sends Anthony Davis and 8(2)
My sincerest apologies-there was a communication error in the deal (Dallas thought it was only the sixth round pick, I thought it was with the Doctor). I apologise for the inconvenience and drama, the deal will likely be voided.
