My clear top 11 guys all off the board where I then had a dropoff to #12 and had no idea who'd get taken.  So aside from Kawhi slipping in there, not many surprises to me in round 1 today.

The Chicago Bulls with pick 1(12) are proud to pick

5 time Champion
2 time MVP
10 time All-NBA first time
8 time All-Defense first team

Timothy Theodore Duncan

The Big Fundamental...have seen some ranking boards with him as high as 3rd or 4th. Great choice.

I’m very happy with him and the person I’m taking first overall in the second round.
2019 historical draft.  Pick 12

Tim Duncan, Oscar Robertson, Elgin Baylor, Scottie Pippen, Willis Reed, Mitch Richmond, Sam Jones, Dan Majerle, Bob Cousy, Rasheed Wallace, Shawn Kemp, Marcus Camby

Someone late in my top 10 is still on the board. But yeah no surprises other than Kawhi.

With the 11th pick 1(11) the San Antonio Spurs select a man who in his prime put up 30ppg, 7 rpg, 6apg. A man whose determination and intensity to win was second only to michael jordan. A man who when the game was on the line could always be counted on the either score or get the stop.

Was a 15 time all nba first team
was an 8 time all nba defensive first team
Was an MVP
won 5 rings
Number 3 on the alltime scoring list

He scored 81 points in a modern game

The Black Mamba,

Kobe Bryant

San Antonio Front Office is incredibly happy with the offensive and defensive pairing of Hakeem and Bryant to start off the draft.

Great choices...will be interesting to see you build around these two.

Thanks, I dont think it will be super easy, but it can be potentially great.

I essentially have 90% of Michael Jordan and Hakeem on the same team.

Those other pieces I can use I expect to be available when I start picking again in the 4th round.

I mentioned earlier I thought some players wouldn't be quite as valuable in today's league as they were in their eras ... but some I believe will be more valuable in today's league.

Of the players picked today, I think Larry Bird is the one that stands out the most in that regard. With the greater onus on the 3 point shot and Larry's superb perimeter shooting, I believe Bird would be one of the most prolific and a highly accurate three point shooter by today's standards.

Which would (1) that that would raise his overall scoring efficiency up (which was already extraordinary) to even greater heights, and, (2) that extra gravity effect from his 3 ball which would create even more spacing for his teammates to attack making Bird even more effective at improving (or getting the best out of) the players around him.

I will mentioned a few others that I think will get big boosts from playing in today's rule system.

Duncan at 12 while owning the first pick tomorrow is great value.

I had 10 of the 12 going in first round. Kawhi (mid to late second) and Kobe (early second). I am surprised about the two who I thought would be firsts but were not. I am looking forward to seeing where they go tomorrow.

I think Tim Duncan was drafted right in the appropriate spot.  Didn't have as dominant of a peak season as other players drafted above him and IMO some undrafted players.

A nice positive about Timmy though is that he was a finals MVP himself, but also could be the best player on title teams where 2 different teammates were both able to win Finals MVP.  It's not an indictment on his play either in those series, it was because he played as a superstar in a way that allowed his teammates to flourish.  Big in this game.

Love the pick. Timmy is hands down a top 10 all time player in my opinion. Great leader and a humble guy, he’s gonna be great to build around.

And has a style of play that works so well with others.

You can put just about anybody next to Tim Duncan and expect Duncan to be able to work well with them.

I was back and forth for a little while on Kobe and Duncan.

I was thinking hard about twin towers.

But then I looked past my hatred of the Lakers and looked at the numbers, firmly put Kobe in the top 10 alltime (playing in this era)

Wow I didn't even think about Duncan + Hakeem.  Man that would have been awesome.  I think you did well with Kobe too.  But that pairing would have been more fun for me.

He also has the ability to be dominant as a 3 or a 4, which is quite valuable in the modern game.

The threat of the twin towers alignment made me nervous about putting a combo forward at PF.

If you went Hakeem and Duncan you would have beat any other front court out there and both are great teammates.  I would not have taken Kobe as I don’t want to have that style of play, but that’s me.
