2019 Historical Draft Thread(TIME TO REVEAL THE WINNER!!!)

I never thought I’d see the day where Bill Russell is the 5th center off the board in an all time draft done by Celtics fans

I was worried how well his game would translate to today's rules. Clearly he would still be great ... but as great as he was in the 50s/60s? Not sure about that.

Although, I did think Russell would benefit from many teams in this league who are likely to play 2 bigs (given the all time great PFs available to choose) rather than the 4 out 1 system of today's league. That would have more players near the basket for him to disrupt with his defensive quickness and smarts.

I figure this league will be more like the NBA from 2009 than 2019 because of more teams playing with two bigs.

I was thinking of drafting Hakeem at 5 so I was watching a youtube video of his game from 1993 playoffs. His quickness is just unbelievable. You know ... but you forget.

You forget just how truly incredibly quick Hakeem was.

That defensive quickness in closing down space and providing help defense. What a defender. And then used that same quickness to destroy people in the post on offense. Amazing player.

Hakeem was only player ever to win MVP, Finals MVP, DPOY in same season.
Only 3 times in NBA has a 25+ ppg scorer ever won DPOY.  Hakeem was 2 of them.  (MJ the third)
In '94 & '95 he absolutely dominated some of the elite players of a pretty tough generation which will be starters on a few teams in this game.

I'm happy sticking with MJ, but Hakeem would be my #2 choice of players I'd want to build around.  (Shaq was #3)

I’m trying to stay open-minded about Kobe (Mr. 8-for-24), but he was such a jerk, and maybe too ball dominant.
