Five-time All-Star F/C Al Horford has agreed to a four-year, $109M deal with the Philadelphia 76ers, agent Jason Glushon tells ESPN.

Well F...  Looks like Danny didn’t want to pay that much for him. Can’t really blame him.

That’s a pretty awkward fit, if you ask me. Simmons, Richardson, Harris, Al, and Embiid is big but not too much shooting, and Al simply isn’t going to be able to guard fours out on the perimeter full-time anymore.

Who's going to guard Al and Embiid though? That's almost as good as a Big Al and AD frontcourt.

They will get killed by a small ball lineup. Al is just not that quick to play at the 4 anymore and Embiid is  too slow to defend the pnr.

Yeah, they’re big, but they’re going to get killed by small lineups. Al simply is not a full-time four. You could see that he was starting to slip in speed and lateral movement this year, and that was him primarily at the five. What’s more, at the five his three point shot was the key, but it’s average or less than average as a full-time four in today’s NBA, especially with his dip in shooting last year.

The fit is just really, really suspect to me. And that’s going to be a lot of money for Al in a few years.

I’m really bummed by him leaving but this is how I see it too. I don’t really see how those two play major minutes together

Yeah, if anything I think better load management of both Embiid and Al and being able to play Al at the 5 when Embiid sits are the best parts of this signing.

For the first time in his career it’s likely that Al won’t be out on the court late in games against most teams. They’re going to find out quick that he simply can’t guard the four full-time in today’s NBA.

This could be, but 109 million for that is mind blowing
Only 97M is guaranteed.  I think you both are underestimating Al and Embiid.  Al is going to spend half his time backing up Embiid but he'll be on the court with Embiid late in games.  If they'd have kept Butler instead of Harris, it would have been a homerun.  Losing Butler hurts their defense against wings and guards but more importantly he filled the go to scorer role.   Embiid can only do so much as a big.  Simmons and/or Harris are going to have to pickup some of the closer load.

I haven't watched the Heat play in forever.  How good on D is Richardson?  I assume he's better than Redick.

I’ll repeat 97 million guaranteed is insane for a 33 year old guy that didn’t make the all star game last year (and I really love him). I would be really troubled if they had kept butler instead of Harris and got al. Who is their closer now? Richardson is a better layer than reddick but probably worse for what the 76ers need, shooting. Richardson was 35% last year (And reddick I believe had a down year but was traditionally a lot better than that). Down one 20 seconds left who gets the last shot for Philly? Simmons and Horford really can’t create at all, and embiid seemed to do pretty bad In these situations when refs swallow their whistle.
So now you're just regurgitating what I've already said.  Harris can create for himself and run the pnr but don't know that he can carry the closer role.  One thing for certain is that they are a lot better off than 2 years ago when their starting lineup was Simmons, Redick, Covington, Saric and Embiid.
I think the only thing that's for certain is that Simmons will be way more exposed in the half-court with this new roster. Such little shooting
So Horford can't shoot anymore?   Harris is a better shooter than Butler or Covington.  Don't know much about Richardson but 35.7% on 6.3 attempts seems pretty good.   Embiid is Embiid.  Back off him at your own peril.  Now it will be interesting to see how the Sixers offense changes since Embiid/Redick actions were a big part of their scheme.

Dragic isn’t going to Dallas.  KO is taking his place.
Some posters were laughing when I suggested we should get Kelly because his defense is bad. Apparantly they know more about basketball than the Mavericks front office

Pat Riley had a nice off season. He got rid of dead weight and added Butler, who was the second best player in the playoffs in the East.

Yea he was a good pick up. I was worried he was losing a step, but he did really play well in playoffs

The Mavericks maintain they agreed to join the Jimmy Butler sign-and-trade under the belief they were getting Kelly Olynyk and Derrick Jones Jr., league sources say. The Heat reportedly do not want to surrender Jones and say they must trade Goran Dragic to make the cap math work

If Dallas and Miami can't sort out the $1.7 million missing from this trade on the Heat end, Miami would presumably have to find a new trade home for Dragic to preserve the trade construction it prefers

Hard to say embiid was better than butler given he missed games and had diarrhea and the flu in ones he played

Could it involve sending Durant's contract to BKN?
