Jimmy Butler wants to play for Miami..that will change alot of teams plans
Unmitigated disaster for Philly. They gave up all their assets to get Butler/Harrisband thee is a very real chance they lose both today.

If Butler just doesn’t want to be in Philly, I don’t think there’s a point in PHL just offering a full max to try and keep him. And unhappy Butler will unhinge that entire locker room.
Not really.  They only gave up Covington and Saric for Butler.  If Miami and Butler really want each other, Miami is going to have to fork over quite a bit to get it done.  The Sixers can always just let Butler walk and use the 20M cap space that would free up.   If they negotiate well with Miami, the Sixers could easily come out ahead.

The main asset the Sixers lost in the Harris deal is the Miami 2021 unprotected 1st which will likely be a mid 1st.  Shamet is a nice young role player (late 1st) and the 2020 Philly pick is lottery protected and likely to be a late 1st.

If Harris and Butler walk, the Sixers would have 40-60M in cap space depending on what they do with Redick and their other free agents.  They could do a lot with that to build around Embiid and Simmons.
I mean, they gave up those guys plus their picks to get Butler/Harris. Considering they have issues with getting talent via FA as well, it would be a big blow to overpay B and C level FAs to fill out that roster. At the very least, it is a step back for them.

Blazers free agent center Enes Kanter is expected to have a phone call with Portland and Boston when free agency begins tonight, a source said.

Awesome. Ideally I think Kanter would be a great backup behind Horford who could also play some lineups with Horford, but he'd also be a good guy to bring in by himself if Horford signs elsewhere. Gives us a legitimate scoring presence inside and is a rebounding machine.

Yeah who on the heat roster fits Philly like butler did? If Harris bolts, who is next best free agent for them? Who do they spend the money on?

i see your point on wanting to bring in kantor. my problem is that he primarily an offensive player. i dont think offense will be major problem area for the celtics next season.

kantor is less than good at defense. and that is where i think the celtics need help next season.

while a great center who does both is, well, great, unless the-return-of-the-Al happens that seems really unlikely.

i think a good defensive center helps this team more next year.

Agreed. Right now, Kanter should be our main target at center (IMO.)

Only 27, coming off a year where he averaged a double double.

True, but given that we already have Timelord and many of the other more defensive-minded centers look primed to go elsewhere (Dedmon to Sac, DJ maybe to Brooklyn, etc.), Kanter would be a good consolation prize.

Kanter = another guy who needs the ball.

Well yes. It's kind of hard to be successful in the NBA without it.

Should they toss him a volleyball instead?

Not so much. Ideally we’d have a low usage center who does the little things. Like Baynes.

Durant resigning in GS would be glorious. Let him and Curry and Clay block Lebron until end of time! Please let that happen and not him joining the flat earth expedition.

Kanter = another guy who needs the ball.

My priorities for big guys are:

1. Defense, especially some switching ability. Can't be totally useless on the perimeter.
2. Ball movement. Doesn't have to get a lot of touches but willing and able to find the open guy when he does.
3. Rebounding, especially defensively.
4. Screens

I don't care if we get 5 ppg from the guy if he can do those things well.
