Anyone else want Delonte West back?

If the money is right, In a heartbeat. I was sad to see the guy go. He is passionate about the game and  has never been detrimental on the court.

There is a lot to be said about his off court stuff, but I have not seen that on the court.

His mind set fits the culture of the current Celtics team too.

Would love to have him back.  He can backup both G positions.  He has shown the ability to hit the big open shot.  He knows the system.  



He is better then every player on the Celtics current bench.  

But can he really "backup both G positions"?  If he was on the team last series, TA still would've gotten the call on Wade because of his defense and bulk.  West would be even more of a liability if he was coming off the bench to guard LeBron when PP or Ray was out. 

So what use would he be?  Sure, he'd be great against crap teams in the regular season that don't matter and he'd be a great backup for Rondo (all 3 mpg in the playoffs).  But I don't think he helps for the C's big concerns. 

Considering Wade averaged 33 points on 56% shooting, did TA really shut him down?


And West would be playing PG/SG, not SF.  Did Rondo guard Lebron?  Did Perk? 


Of course not.  Pierce, Ray, TA and Daniels guarded him. 


So, yes, he can back up both G positions since he has started both G positions in his career.

I never said that he shut Wade down.  However, I think the question should be asked, Doc have played West over TA in either this series or last?  I don't think so. 

And this whole shooting guard/small forward thing is fairly irrelevant.  Doc is playing TA the bulk of the minutes as Pierce, Allen, and Rondo's backup.  The whole point of the backup is that when TA is in the game, he can make the other team's best wing's life tough.  West doesn't offer that.  And if he doesn't offer that, when exactly is he going to play?

Wait a minute... isn't Delonte still under contract with Cleveland?  At first I was thinking he must be a free agent after this season for someone to start a Delonte to Boston thread.  He's not even a free agent and we would have to trade for him to get him, right?  I don't think we'll be trading with Cleveland and unless Cleveland will take Shelden Williams and Scal for him, I wouldn't do it, because we'd probably have to give up Baby and Baby is more valuable to this team as a big.  Besides, I think he makes too much money for the role he'd play in Boston.

TA attempted 5 3 pointers this year.  He is not a shooter. 


West is an outside shooter.  We have seen him hit the big shot.


We have also seen West run the Celtics offense.  While he is not in the same class as Rondo, he can run the offense. 

And after seeing him in Cleveland, we know he can play next to Rondo (unlike most the other players they brought in to play that role)


If the Celtics were able to add West, they would still need a SG/SF that can defend.  (whether that is TA or someone else)
