I love Delonte. He's a hard nosed tough player that shows up for big games. I was glad to get Ray but giving up West was a bummer. His contract has him in Cleveland for one more year then he he is a free agent in 11/12.

Would you be interested in signing Delonte in 11/12? What sort of contract would you offer? His current contract pays him 4.25 mil this year and 4.65 mil in 10/11.

I would loooove Delonte back but only for a value contract. Im sorry to say but he has proven to be very unstable. Im not sure I would want to count on him every year. It is sad but I fear the worst for West but of course hope for the best.

I wouldn't have a huge problem with it, but I think there are too many off the court issues to invest too much money in him.

Definitely Not.  He is way to much of liability for his off court antics.

EDIT:  I also loved Delonte as a player when he was here, and as a person he was hilarious.  The CSN commercials of him talking about his 'wire hanger' makeshift basketball hoops was great.  But now it's clear he is a danger to society.  I don't care if he is playing basketball again or taking his meds... something tells me that guy is going to do something really crazy thats going to get himself or someone else hurt one day.

Delonte does have problems, but I would take him back in a nanosecond!  I wish we had him now (he would be a great backup for Ray Allen/Rajon Rondo, along with Marquis...)  As far as money, I think he is probably worth about the same as Glen Davis.

A D.C. area native-turned-NBA player was arrested in Prince George's County on Thursday after a police officer who pulled him over on the Beltway found that he was carrying three loaded guns, authorities said.

Delonte West, 26, a graduate of Greenbelt's Eleanor Roosevelt High School and a guard for the Cleveland Cavaliers, was traveling north on the Beltway in a three-wheeled motorcycle called a Can-Am Spyder when he cut off a Prince George's canine officer near Route 214, authorities said. The officer pulled over West for making an "unsafe lane change," police said, and when the officer approached the motorcycle, West told him he had a handgun in his waistband.

That prompted the officer to call for backup and search West's vehicle. He found three guns -- a Beretta 9mm in West's waistband, a Ruger .357 magnum strapped to his leg and a shotgun in a guitar case slung over his back, said Maj. Andy Ellis, a spokesman for the Prince George's police.

Police charged West with two criminal counts of carrying a handgun for the Ruger and the Beretta, and issued him a traffic citation for driving "in excess of reasonable and prudent speed," court records show. Ellis said West was within his rights to carry the shotgun.

It is not clear why West was so heavily armed or why he was traveling alone in the Largo area at 10 p.m. on a Thursday, Ellis said. West's father, Dmitri West, said, "All I can say is Delonte was looking behind his back and protecting himself." He said his son was looking out for both specific people and because he was generally concerned about his well-being as a high-profile athlete. He declined to say who might be targeting the NBA star.

"Bottom line is there's a lot of not-too-nice people out here," Dmitri West said

The trial has been postponed till July 21 so we will know more then. I do not think he is "He is way to much of liability for his off court antics"

Not all, and for the following reasons:

-He can only go left, and I remember when he was a Celtic I was surprised that few defenders never forced him only right.  Last night the C's did a good job of forcing him right, and it had great results.

-He's not reliable b/c of his mental condition.  There is always a chance he doesn't show up for the season b/c of this.  I like reliability.

-The way he plays is prone to injury.  I like people who play hard and dive for balls, but he doesn't always go about it the safest way and it has cost him in the past.  Again, a reliability thing.

-He's had gun and law enforcement issues in the past.  This team does not need that, especially from a role player.

  • You know my methods, Watson.
Some of you guys crack me up...

"Hey, we should sign this kid...only problem is he's in 4th grade right now.  But what do you think about bringing him here when his rookie contract expires and he's available to us in the 2026-2027 season?"  :)

One round of Delonte was enough for me...  Give me a backup PG like Chris Duhon and I'd be happy.

No.  We should go after Luke Ridnour.  He's a real point guard, Delonte is not.  Not to mention Delonte's mental problems.  He'd probably be in jail if he was a Celtic, but he's one of the Queen's men.

No thanks.

Definitely not interested. He was a good kid while he was here, but it's not what the Celts are really looking for now. Plus, and his baggage to talent ratio is out of whack and we already have Sheed.

Would love to have him back.  He can backup both G positions.  He has shown the ability to hit the big open shot.  He knows the system.

He is better then every player on the Celtics current bench.

TP.  Of course that would depend on his court appearance/result.  If you hope to have a team of problem free players, not only would your bench be very short, but you would have a hard time fielding a starting five!  Delonte should have wised up about his problem now to realize he has to stay on his meds...and like wdleehi says, he is better than anyone else on our bench now...
