Chris Haynes from ESPN was on CSNNE.

Speculated that Altman had zero intention of honoring the initial deal.

Would be a really stupid thing for a new GM to try. Huge waste of time all things considered. Not buying that one.

It may be a business, but to trade Isaiah (and Crowder) to Cleveland just feels dirty, and I'm sure Cleveland feels the same way about Irving and trading him to the enemy (BOS).

In an ideal world, C's keep Isaiah, Jaylen and Tatum become stars, and they build w/future draft picks and Hayward and others to beat the EVIL EMPIRE of the East (Lebron & Cleveland). Instead you trade Isaiah and Crowder to that team LOL.

And Ainge clearly OVERPAYED in this deal. Kyrie is NOT THAT much better than Isaiah to warrant all that in a trade. Sorry, he's just not. Maybe he's a marginal upgrade but that's it.

I saw Isaiah LEAD a team to the ECF. All I've seen Kyrie do without Lebron is lead a team to a Top-5 draft pick. And even in the past few years, in games where Lebron sat but Kyrie played, the Cavaliers looked really bad. Kyrie didn't look like a true alpha and that's one reason Kyrie wanted out (to be a true alpha elsewhere on a stable team).

And yeah, I'm also aware that maybe the Nets Pick was added to help compensate for Isaiah's hip injury concerns in case he misses a decent amount of time, but wow, that's still A LOT, and the fact that Cleveland (possibly) asked for "more compensation" makes me...  >:(

Anyone else feel this way or am I just the rare one on here who thinks both "this trade feels dirty" and "I hate this trade"?

Other than Cleveland asking for more, and you being  >:(

I agree with nothing you've said.

Dang there's either those that agree with OP, or those that want to absolutely rip OP's points to shreds  :P

Honestly, what I think is more dirty now is the holdup with this trade. Seriously, make a darn decision already! All the players involved right now have to be irked with everything that's going on right now and this drama.

Hell, even the Nets Pick is probably mad it has no clue who it's conveying to

I kind of understand where you're coming from, but Isaiah and Jae got traded to a very good team and they're going to be teammates with one of the best players of all time. They'll be fine. I love Isaiah, and it pains me to see him traded, but he'll be just fine.

I respect, and I realistically value his talent, and I think he's a good Dude, but if you're asking some to feel sad, or shed a tear for him, I simply can't. Isaiah Thomas is a millionaire many times over. Brinks Truck or not.

It's not like he and his family will be starving and living in the streets. He's been traded to an NBA championship contender, things could be a heck of a lot worse. Get healthy and get back to work.

Danny has done what several other NBA teams have done to IT, evaluate how he'll help the team win, and then make the decision to trade him. The reasons for these decisions have been well discussed.

No player on the Celtics is bigger than the Team IMO.

We haven't heard much from the players either besides a little of Isaiah in that Woj interview.

Actually, now that I think about it, we've seen IT and Crowder either w/Cavs gear or saying quotes to Woj, but we HAVE NOT seen or heard from Irving at all the past week. What gives LOL?

It does feel dirty.  In the last few months:

1.  IT played through a serious injury, and continued to play after that injury was re-aggravated;

2. Played despite his sister's death and funeral;

3. Lost teeth and played after hours long dental surgery.

Then, he helped the Celtics recruit free agents, including Hayward.

Despite all that, he doesn't even get a heads up that he's involved in trade talk. It feels about as cold as possible.  The dude could have shut his hip down in March, and we wouldn't even be having this conversation. Instead, he put his team in front of himself.

I don't buy that at all. IT's knock at the time was that he was a good scorer, but he couldn't win a playoff game. He needed to beat the Bulls and Wizards to disprove that point. He is still set up to make big $.

Oh, and he gets to play with Lebron James. Somehow the media has contorted this into a negative thing. IT will play with the best player in the world next year when he's healthy. This is a good thing for him.

Finally, IT is a very rich person that is going to get much richer. He will compete for a ring, then will get to pick which city he wants to live in while making more money than God.

How do people feel bad for him, given this perspective? I think he's doing just fine!
The only real mistake is the one from which we learn nothing.

IT is the guy really getting shafted by this holdup. Altman may have to mollify his feelings about being used as a piece of leverage and being labelled as damaged goods because Altman wants to impress his boss Gilbert by getting a second rounder (lol).
Any odd typos are because I suck at typing on an iPhone :D

I think the whole thing is disgraceful, honestly.

The Cavs are getting Thomas, a 29 PPG scoring all-star who just finished 5th in MVP voting after helping to carry his team to a #1 seed in the East.  This same guy is on an expiring contract, so has all the motivation in the world to want to play hard and prove he's worth max money.

So what does Cleveland do?  Insult the guy!

I mean, that is essentially what Cleveland is doing by asking fro more in this trade.  They are basically telling Boston by "Thomas isn't good enough.  Even with Crowder, Zizic and the Brooklyn 1st on top, that's still not enough for us to feel comfortable giving up our ONE guy."

Like Thomas wouldn't feel backstabbed enough by Boston...he's now basically being shat on by the team he's going to just to try and devalue him (in a contract year, when the last thing he wants is to be devalued) so they can have an excuse to ask for more.

Despicable.

Yep, and all that ended in adding just some 2020 2nd rounder.

Cleveland's Front Office is THE WORST. Can't wait to see them go back to being irrelevant in a year when Lebron bolts.

Is Gibert going to write another letter this next summer??  ::)

I feel like Tom Brady felt when he dumped Bridget for Gisele.

After knocking her up no less.

To the naysayers....

Would you have preferred that we resigned IT to a max deal?
