It may be a business, but to trade Isaiah (and Crowder) to Cleveland just feels dirty, and I'm sure Cleveland feels the same way about Irving and trading him to the enemy (BOS).

In an ideal world, C's keep Isaiah, Jaylen and Tatum become stars, and they build w/future draft picks and Hayward and others to beat the EVIL EMPIRE of the East (Lebron & Cleveland). Instead you trade Isaiah and Crowder to that team LOL.

And Ainge clearly OVERPAYED in this deal. Kyrie is NOT THAT much better than Isaiah to warrant all that in a trade. Sorry, he's just not. Maybe he's a marginal upgrade but that's it.

I saw Isaiah LEAD a team to the ECF. All I've seen Kyrie do without Lebron is lead a team to a Top-5 draft pick. And even in the past few years, in games where Lebron sat but Kyrie played, the Cavaliers looked really bad. Kyrie didn't look like a true alpha and that's one reason Kyrie wanted out (to be a true alpha elsewhere on a stable team).

And yeah, I'm also aware that maybe the Nets Pick was added to help compensate for Isaiah's hip injury concerns in case he misses a decent amount of time, but wow, that's still A LOT, and the fact that Cleveland (possibly) asked for "more compensation" makes me...  >:(

Anyone else feel this way or am I just the rare one on here who thinks both "this trade feels dirty" and "I hate this trade"?

He overpaid because IT is injured.

Ainge says kyrie fits our timeline better.

Better hope Kyrie re-signs in 2 years, because otherwise this trade looks even more awful regardless what happens over at Cleveland.

I know Kyrie says he's "thrilled" to be here and the C's feel confident that can re-sign him.. but things change drastically around the NBA as we're seeing now.

Kyrie has his best basketball ahead of him and many prime seasons left .  IT does not.

Get back to me in March if you think the trade is still bad.

Sure!   ;)

I mean I know Kyrie will play really well here (possibly even better) and no doubt will be rooting for him, but it wasn't JUST a Kyrie-for-Isaiah swap here either.

Yep. Sad.  :(

Crowder too. Even if he was never part of long term plans, he deserves appreciation for all he did the last two years and for helping the team with it's growth. Instead he became a punching bag for much of the season.   :(

that's what happens when you have a nasty hip injury. We are trying to win a championship, not sit and wait for IT to be ready to play when he's 30

This trade only happened because Irving unexpectedly became available in August. Otherwise, we would have rolled with IT for the coming season.

It does feel dirty.  In the last few months:

1.  IT played through a serious injury, and continued to play after that injury was re-aggravated;

2. Played despite his sister's death and funeral;

3. Lost teeth and played after hours long dental surgery.

Then, he helped the Celtics recruit free agents, including Hayward.

Despite all that, he doesn't even get a heads up that he's involved in trade talk. It feels about as cold as possible.  The dude could have shut his hip down in March, and we wouldn't even be having this conversation. Instead, he put his team in front of himself.

Wait a minute! What makes IT so untouchable?

Kareem, Dr. J, Moses have all been traded. Yes, he played under tough conditions and that's to his benefit but let go of the emotional tears and think level headed.

No one cried for the Celtics when we lost Bias and Lewis. It's a rough deal and when the Celtics are winning in 2019-20, people will be praising Ainge while the Cavs are back in the lottery.

Exactly, this fell into Ainge's lap. He didn't initiate this situation. Maybe IT needed to stop talking about a brink's truck.

Anyone else feel this way or am I just the rare one on here who thinks both "this trade feels dirty" and "I hate this trade"?

Yeah, that was my first reaction and I still sort of feel that way.  I know getting Kyrie is a coup for most of us, but to trade away IT (and the emotional fallout that followed), Jae, and the unprotected Brooklyn pick was a huge blow to this team in my view.

I also think this trade does some serious damage to Danny Ainge's reputation.  Are we so sure free agents will want to sign here with him at the helm, following this deal?  I mean, you can make a very good case that IT is the reason the Celtics were good enough to attract and to sign Horford and Hayward.  And now you just forget that and move him for a younger model?

Now - I understand the cold and calculating rationale of trading IT.  I think he was basically on the trading block all year after Durant decided to go to GSW, and the nails in the coffin were the hip injury and the Hayward signing.  They were not going to bring him back at max money (or anything close to it) and put themselves in position for the repeater tax for a team that was still no guarantee to get past Cleveland, let alone GSW, with him at risk of a career-altering injury on every drive to the hoop.

I would like to believe that Danny had some conversation about an extension with IT's agent.  If it comes out that ITs camp played hardball with Ainge, I have no further remorse for trading IT.  But I find it really hard to believe IT wanted to play anywhere else but Boston, and if he was approached about a hometown discount he would have taken it.

In the end, I am trying to treat this like the Bradley trade (even with that BK pick included):  a crappy move for Cs fans but a understandable move given that he wasn't going to be resigned.

It will be very hard to feel that way if the Cavs make the Finals with IT and/or that BK pick is top-5.
