I think making the playoffs has done weird things to people's minds not just in terms of the tank vs no tank debate, but on the actual quality of the team.

All year long, it seemed perfectly reasonable and "part of the plan" that the Cs were in the bottom 10 (or even 5) of the league. Suddenly our boys make an inspired run and grab the 7th seed and they start getting evaluated like the 14th best team. They draw a title contender with a "Big 3" in their prime right now and of course it's not going to go well.

Whoa, slow down with the common sense. How are people supposed to look smarter than others with this narrative?

It seems like sometimes this board becomes less about talking about the celtics, their players, and their games and more about people wanting to prove they were right in some opinion they held or posted in the past. I wish there was some way to cut that down.
You cut it down by being less dismissive of opinions that you don't agree with.  When Celtic fans come here and share unpopular opinions, they are usually met with comments like, "TROLL!  HATER!! IDIOTIC!! ATTENTION-SEEKER!!, OUTLANDISH!!"... When the unpopular opinion is eventually proven right (like in the case of fans who pointed out Rondo's flaws), you can't blame those fans for wanting to point out their opinion wasn't outlandish.

I never gave anyone a label, either. I'm calling you out for making this all about you.

Nah. I'm making this about the celtics.  Others are making it about me.   I'm just responding to folks who keep mentioning me.  I get that people are frustrated after the embarrassing sweep.  I still think there is reason for optimism.  Just need patience and faith in Ainge.

As for your comment, "you weren't the only one to point out rondo's faults"... Of course not... Which is why it was so annoying when someone would point out rondo's faults and get labelled a troll by sensitive fans.  I'm also not the only one who thinks noel is a top tier prospect.  I'm also not the only one who thinks the Cavs were bored in the series.  I'm also not the only one who thinks this is a talentless bunch who will need a miracle to contend.  Pretty sure that's my entire point when I share commentary from folks like Simmons/windhorst...  that they are valid opinions. It's always interesting to me when someone shares an unpopular (but common) opinion and some folks here take it personally and and label it"hating". Sometimes it's just an opinion. Lol

I'd say after year one Banks 2.0 is looking like a massive bust. Randle was the pick and Ainge blew it. Even Exum has a much higher ceiling but trader Danny was too scared to roll the dice. He picked the worst player out of the top 10! Banks is horrible and has no shooting touch much like his predecessor. Homeless man's Tony Allen indeed.

How did Randle play this season? I must have missed him outplaying Smart

That's how bad Smart is. He's by all accounts the real deal. Banks 2.0 is a role player at best.

More Celtic crazy talk!

I was not a big fan of the pick but I fell for the idea that people on here knew what they were talking about, which of course they don't. Smart can shoot and he can hit big shots, he's legit and IMO has a bright future. Has he like every young player in the league has a lot to work on but I'm willing to bet he will do just that.

Official Warning

Stop with the personal attacks.  Talk about the Celtics and the opinions put forth.  Do not talk about the member.

Failure to follow this rule will result in locking of the thread and official consequences for the offending party.

The biggest hampering on the Celtics player in terms of trade is none of them have that "wow potential" connected to them.  They are a collection of solid to good players that will play hard.

That, and the non-lotto picks this season will make trading for a star a challenge.

That's why I think this will be another offseasons of filling up on future trade pieces.  To move the solid players for a chance at the "wow potential" to move later.

Totally agree.  Sully was our "wow" guy/Big AL piece in the potential Love deal, look how that went.  I think this season was very telling as to Danny's strategy.  Trades are our only real pool of talent to draw from, so we will slowly add a piece here and there, that will ultimately be packaged for the elusive "disgruntled veteran star" that were all praying for. Hoping Danny can buy low sell high on ET/others.

Was Sully really at that level or were we as fans of the team just overrating his value at that point?

I still think we were overrating his value (ignoring his injury past)

Yeah, I mean, we know what the answer is.
At least a goldfish with a Lincoln Log on its back goin' across your floor to your sock drawer has a miraculous connotation to it.

In the summer of 2017, I predicted this team would not win a championship for the next 10 years.

3 down, 7 to go.
