King gets a pass for his issues "winning" due to his severe knee injury. Oh also New York media likes to pretend the Knicks franchise is "special" so they pump him up.

Melo/Carter/Pierce don't have that narrative twist.

Ok, but as a Boston fan (and no, I'm one of those, who dreams of being a media star in the Big Apple), it's hard not to be impressed by a guy, who took the '84 Bird championship team, a full 7 games with only Bill Cartwright by his side. I don't see the Melos and the Carters of the world pulling that off.
Bill Cartwright was the only other offensive option, but that Knicks team was the best in the league defensively.

Edit: Also that series looks like the C's Hawks in 07-08.

Knicks lost by 18
Knicks lost by 14
Knicks won by 8
Knicks won by 5
Knicks lost by 22
Knicks won by 2
Knicks lost by 17

A seven game series that really wasn't that close.

Melo never seems to get any credit for the Nuggets taking the eventual champion Lakers to 6 games in the WCF in a pretty competitive series back in '09.
