Melo = Vince Carter 2.0

Explain?

Vince Carter was a probably the most athletically gifted guard in the NBA. 'Melo is... not.

Darn, I said that Melo was probably the most overrated player in the last 20 years. How could I have forgotten the actual most overrated player in Vince Carter?

Vince Carter was a really, really good player and still is a nice player considering his age.

It seems like being a superstar a notch below the true MVP candidates is a bit of a curse in today's league.  No credit for being that good, just lots of criticism for not being Kobe / LeBron / Durant.

Are we saying Carter or Melo could never win a title if they had teammates like Shaq, Gasol, Wade, Bosh, Westbrook, etc?

Is Shawn Marion a better player than Melo, or Carter in his prime, because he got to play with Dirk, Chandler, Terry, and Kidd?

If KG never comes to Boston, it's exceedingly likely Paul Pierce gets remembered in a very similar way as those guys, fair or not.

I don't think anyone's giving Marion his props, for being on a squad with Dirk, Chandler, Terry, & Kidd. I think it's clear that Dirk's the one, who had to put his team on his back, when the pressure was on.

What Melo & Carter seem to have is this perennial ballhogger reputation along with being one who mails it in, during tough situations and then, doesn't follow through, in terms of defense and finding the open man, when their shots don't fall.

Realize, even KG never made it out of the 1st round, until Spree & Cassell showed up but yet, KG's never developed that type of negative reputation, as a team player. Sure, he's gotten the *no-Q4 bravo scoring* awards, however, during those situations, he's still finding ppl like Wally and others, open for their jumpers, or is at least, trying to get into an opponent's face.

How many assists he have this game?   I know the answer and it's pretty selfish.

Do you know how many passes of his lead to missed shots that game or free throws? I bet the answer is more than zero, is he less selfish if his teammates don't brick every shot off one of his passes?

Larry only had 3 assists that game and the C's were fouling to get him more shots at the end. Very selfish right?

9 Different players have all had 50+ point games with zero assists. (Carmelo is the only repeat though with 2)

Its not all that odd.

Overrated doesn't = bad to me. You can be good or even very good at a few things and still be overrated in my book.

It's a selfish gimmick when they stack it up like that.  Little more than player made propaganda.  Granted you still have to have loads of talent to do this folks.

I predict LeBron will have a stacked game pretty soon.

I seen that game...he was passing out of the double, but you can't get an assist if the other person throws the ball away.

Yup, me too.  No turnovers for Melo either - NBA record (though they've only tracked turnovers since the 70s).  So his assist to turnover ratio was so good it's incalculable  :)

Vince Carter was super overrated.  He was looked at as elite for a few seasons.  Give me a prime Marion over Carter any day.

Possibly, but I'd take a windmill dunk over the flipper shot any day of the week  ;D
