Let it be known that I love Rondo.

In an ideal situation he wouldnt be traded. But this isnt an ideal situation.

He is unfortunately the only chip we have to get a great player. So we have two options. Build around him and use him to attract talent, or trade his talent to be able to upgrade from young talent and FA's.

I chose the latter.

One other thought is whether Orlando would flip the number 1 for Rondo, and then Boston either keeps and drafts Noel, OR flips it to Sac for Cousins and other pieces (my preference).

Orlando are looking for a franchise point guard and Rondo might just be the guy. That scenario may see Doc reuniting with Rondo in a couple years in Orlando as well.

I see Cousins as someone who needs a veteran organisation and respected vets and a coach to counsel him. Sacramento has none of these elements.

THIS is a really interesting idea that I never even considered.  Rondo to Orlando for this years and next years numbers 1s, + Jameer Nelson + young player like Moe Harkless.  May have to throw in our pick this year or a 2nd rounder next.  With that dominoe, we could then trade PP and KG for young assets/picks and immediately infuse our roster with young talent in a two year span.

We could be back as a contending team very quickly with high picks, additional young talent and the young plays that we have now.

Green for Varejao would be a terrifying but titillating risk.

Varejao does almost everything the team needs - rebounds like a maniac, plays excellent D and creates easy buckets for himself and others with his energy. But the odds of him staying healthy don't seem good.

Green for Gortat's the safer option. Just a little wary of how much we'd have to pay to keep him.  Nor is he the all-around menace that Varejao can be when healthy. But you can get a lot of joy out of a Rondo/Gortat pairing offensively.  Love Gortat's ability to finish on the move.

we had a hard time scoring above 70 points in the playoffs , and you want to get rid of our best you scorer?

I would trade Bradley , maybe Sully  plus filler

It also took Jeff a lot of possessions to score all those points...

Not exactly.  The FG% dipped in the playoffs from the regular season, but he balanced that by getting to the line much more and hitting threes at a higher clip.  20 points on 14 shots is very solid in terms of efficiency.

Notice that I said "possessions" and not field goal attempts.  Scoring 20 points in 14 possessions would be excellent efficiency.  Scoring 20 points on 14 field goal attempts and 8 free throw attempts (equivalent to 3-4 more field goal attempts) is OK efficiency.  Scoring 20.3 points on 14.2 fga, 7.5 fta, and 3.2 turnovers worth of possessions is very very average in terms of efficiency for the NBA.  Especially when you consider that he doesn't create extra possessions in terms of offensive rebounds or steals.

To make a parallel - If Dwight Howard shot 6/8 from the field, then 4/10 from the ft line... would you consider that an efficient outing because he scored 10 points on 8 fga?  (Hopefully your answer is no because he used up 13 possessions to score those 10 points, which is below the league average)

Why exactly would a rebuilding team trade their top 3 picks for a 27 year old PG off a torn acl?
