They could have sort of survived without Kyrie. Without Horford, they are toast.

Agreed. This is a back breaker. Terrible news.

I have zero faith in Danny Ainge anymore.

Same here.  It is becoming apparent that he had no real "Plan B" to "Get AD and retain Kyrie" and now the team is likely stuck as a 6-8 seed or back-lottery mediocrity
back to lottery is better than bad contracts

Might as well try and move Gordon Hayward. There's no point in keeping him if we can't keep Al.

Move on with Jaylen and Jayson, go young.

I agree.

If the Celts can swap Hayward for Bradley Beal, Celts would not have to totally go young.

Beal's contract is smaller than Hayward's.
That will give the Celts more cap room.

Celts can then sign D-Lo.

Beal
D-Lo
Brown
Tatum
Smart

That's a good start.

Good luck swapping Hayward for Beal. Washington don't have a president right now but even the janitor would probably say that's not a good idea.

Hayward and Beal have 2 years left on their deal.

Reason why the Wiz will do it is because the Celts will offer a pick or picks as compensation.

The Wiz are going nowhere even if they keep Beal.

Boston offering the #14 pick is a good start.
It's only a good start if it's accompanied by the Memphis pick and Brown

Wiz really have no other direction but down.

The #14 pick plus the Memphis pick, with protection, will be a good deal for the Wiz.

Brown doesn't have to be included.

Coming around to the idea of throwing money at DAR... Brad made IT look like a superstar maybe he can do the same for Russell. This team is going nowhere anyway anytime soon.

I mean, if we have space this summer why not? Next year’s crop of free agents is supposedly weak, so may as well cash in now before we owe both of the J’s big money.

Go out and get Russell and go for the young, athletic, running lineup of Russell, Brown, Tatum, Hayward, and Williams (he has to learn sometime, and now us as good as ever with us resetting).

Danny is such a hack, I want him out of the organization so bad.

Woj is reporting that Danny won't pay Al the 3 year price he's asking for. What better options do you have in the frontcourt over the next three years? The man was the first big time FA we ever signed, other players look at this stuff.

We are being judged harshly around the league by players and agents for the way Danny treats these guys. Yes he owes it to the Celtics to get better first and foremost, but it's a players league.

As sorry as the Lakers are from a management position, they have a great reputation for taking good care of their own guys. Our rep is getting worse.

A new GM and culture would be a shot in the arm. Danny sucks.

Sign Julius Randle, he would be the best fit and we could finalllllllly get some rebounds

Yeah I'd love to add Randle.

+2.

They could probably get unprotected firsts elsewhere though

Is it possible to sign Randle, then trade for Beal? Along the way, add like 2-3 more guys using exceptions and/or other picks we have?

Yeah getting rid of Hayward right now for anything of value may be impossible.  We are really better off rehabbing his trade value first.  He will be better next year.
If he improves significantly next season, he'll probably opt out and be a free agent in 2020 when there won't be many good free agents.

Yeah, I am coming around to the idea of Smart at PG if Hayward is out there at PF. Let the two of them share playmaking duties. Get a big man who can defend and rebound. Build a bench.

If Hayward can be a useful starter, that team could be a 41-48 win team depending on how good that bench and center are.

I have been preferring Smart as our PG for a while now.  He is a good passer, has a knack for driving the lane.
Smart - Brown - Tatum - Hayward - TBD

I say that team still makes the playoffs if we get a decent center.
Randle would be good for scoring and rebounding alongside that squad, but he's not a great defender.

Beggars can't be choosers though

I am down for that.  Can Randle really play center?  If so, that would be a fun team to watch.
Randle gives 100%, he would fit.

Randle put up great stats last year, and seems to be breaking out.  I would consider it, but we would still need to sign a legit rim protector.  Noel anyone? Lol I’d need to look at the full free agent list.

The Boston Celtics are preparing for strong scenario that All-Stars Kyrie Irving and Al Horford will leave as free agents, league sources tell @TheAthleticNBA @Stadium.

So basically, if we lose Horford (welp), let Morris + Rozier walk, I think we'll have about 20M in cap space

27M. That could open up a DAngelo Russell play.

Horford my guess, if he leaves
Clippers
Atlanta
Knicks
C/PF-Horford, Baynes, Noel, Theis, Morris,
SF/SG- Tatum, Brown, Hayward, Smart, Semi, Clark
PG- Irving, Rozier, Larkin

And Danny does deserve significant blame for this. While it’s not completely his fault, as the Hayward injury really set this downfall in motion, he did take several gambles that have failed miserably (hoarding assets for AD, not trading Rozier, not thinning out the roster to assist with chemistry, etc.).

Don't think they can get Beal

Hayward has no value. That contract is just horrendous.

I certainly would just let all the FA walk and go from there.

Hayward and Beal have 2 years left on their contracts.
Both contracts expire in 2021.

Wiz will clearly be a rebuilding team next season and in the foreseeable future.

Getting picks is what they will need for a rebuild.

Celts can offer the #14 pick and another pick or picks.
