I don't see this as doom and gloom at all.
People thought we could get him to a 3 year 60- 70 deal and get to have his steady presence as Tatum/Jaylen grew into stars. (hopefully)

Just makes that path harder to see.

Beware a Jayson Tatum without structure and boundaries.
Yeah I worry he could get some of Kyrie's warts.

How exactly do people think Boston is going to get Beal? For Hayward and picks?

To get Beal it would cost Tatum or Brown

I'd give up Brown for Beal in a heartbeat.

I would not. Reason is that Beal can walk in two years and since we're not in an easy position to contend the next two years I wouldn't want to risk that.

Brown and Tatum being on the same timeline is one of the few good things we have left.

I love that people hate Rozier for being a bad teammate but are licking their chops for D'angelo Russell.

Well before we start slitting wrists let's see what happens. There's more twists and turns in this story yet and the title of this thread might be premature.

Agreed.  It is not like the Celtics cannot match what Horford is looking for if they want to keep him.

Man ... it's crazy that right now all I can think about for the Celts next year is ping pong balls and how many points Tatum might average.

God, I am terrified of Tatum on a bad team -- the bad habits he might build. I do not trust him without a strong structure around him. He is far too in-love with those contested two point jump shots. If he starts getting 15-20 FGAs on a bad team and starts pumping in lots of points, it could get very hard very quick to keep his shot selection in line.

Stevens is not exactly someone who holds people accountable for their choices offensively.

Tatum is someone I most definitely I want on a winning team with the right culture. He had enough bad habits coming out of college. No need to let them grow bigger. He did so well as a rookie before relapsing last season.

Beware a Jayson Tatum without structure and boundaries.

I don't entirely disagree.  That's part of why I wanted Horford to stay so badly.

Without Horford I think the wheels really come off this thing.  Horford was the linchpin.  Now they don't have an anchor on defense or a fulcrum on offense.

The Celts are going to be bad and we just have to trust in Brad to figure out how to develop these guys even though they are going to have to reset the entire structure of the gameplan on the fly.
You’ll have to excuse my lengthiness—the reason I dread writing letters is because I am so apt to get to slinging wisdom & forget to let up. Thus much precious time is lost.

As terrified as I am with Tatum...also that way with Brown and a broken Hayward.

I realize how important Al was to this team and our offensive sets. But he is 33 years old. A 4 year contract takes him to 38 years old in the last yer of his contract. No thanks.

The posturing that Al will go sign a 4 year contract with another team. No kidding he will. But I don't believe another team will offer him this. Thus he will return to the negotiation table after testing free agency and if the bridge wasn't burned, we can revisit matching whatever 2 or 3 year offer teams are likely to offer him is within our acceptable range. Or he signs elsewhere and we thank him for his tremendous professionalism, watch the youth movement (more minutes for Time Lord) and see what Danny and Co. are able to pull off with a bunch of young cornerstone players already, enough room to sign a max player and league exception player, and a bevy of draft picks moving forward.

I don't see this as doom and gloom at all.

Loss of value.  If he re-signed and we had another miserable season in 2019-2020, we could trade him if he so wished.  We'd get value in return for that.  Players of Horford's caliber are always of high value.  Losing both Kyrie and Horford for absolutely nothing is a gut punch AND a straight kick to the balls.

Woj predicts Clippers a likely target for Al; they have two max slots, one for Kawhi. That would be a darn good team, every bit as good as Lakers IMO.

He’ll either be taller Wiggins or shorter Durant

Amazing how 2 injuries doomed the Celtics...first IT and then Hayward.

That would be such an easy team to root for

Doc , Big Al, and Kawhi, I would root for that team.
