If you're the Celtics, you're

  • Bringing back Baynes as your starter, because he's reliable and a proven fit.
  • Bringing back Theis as a backup, because he showed well last year.
  • Hoping to have Williams as a backup, because you're hoping he's the future.
  • Going to use Horford as your center in some lineups.

So where does a center who pouts when he doesn't get his minutes, touches, and shots, fit in behind that?

I know it's not your main point, but I think Horford is the starter at center and will play most of his minutes at center. Baynes will come off the bench and Horford will play alongside him a bit. I expect the starters to be Kyrie, Jaylen, Jayson, Gordon, and Al, and that unit will get the majority of the minutes.

Any way you carve up the minutes, the issue still remains the same for me.  Do you really want the Celtics to sign a guy who cries about minutes, touches and shots?  Now, it's possible that he'll straighten up this year, especially if he looks to what just went down with GSW and Cousins.  But is that a gamble worth taking?

I'd say no, but Ainge and Stevens may think differently, especially if Williams is worrying them more than they let on.

I think the primary reason to sign Howard is he has skills that other bigs in Boston don't have. Williams also has some of those skills, but it appears that he won't be a significant contributor this year. He is just too young and inexperienced. Maybe that's why Ainge was willing to sign Cousins--to at least have him for the playoffs. If Philly gets Leonard, they will be a real threat, and Embiid will loom larger. Howard had a good year last year, and was very durable.

Signing Howard gives us a slight edge over Golden State. He neutralizes Cousins and the paint. Love to see how CBS uses Howard.

If Cousins is back at, or near, 100%, he's a much better player than what Howard is at this point in his career.

I'm growing more and more interested in seeing what CBS and Co. can do with Dwight Howard. As stated, if it doesn't impact Smart and comes cheap (i.e. he doesn't put us above tax line to start the clock on repeater tax) then have at it.

Not saying Cousin's isn't better, I am saying Howard helps us counter Cousins with a solid big.

We bring Dwight in and we may be looking something like the 2009 Orlando Magic. 4-pure three-point shooters and 1 big man dominating inside the paint.

Except these guys are NO Courtney Lee, Jameer Nelson, Rashard Lewis, or Hedo Turkoglu. They are, much better than those washed-up has beens lol.

And Dwight is 10 years older.

And they weren’t that good to begin with.

I’ve changed my stance to now kick the tires on it, as opposed to avoid at any cost.

At the vet min, we could cut him if he gave us any trouble. He has no role on GSW anymore. HOU or LAL? Did either end well for him? Both could use him though.

We have 4 capable centers with Williams and I don’t think we need a fifth, but I’d take him over a Kadeem Allen or Jabari Bird, I guess.
