I think things will quiet down on the AD front at least through this weekend. There'll be discussions and planning still, but not as actively as there were a few days ago.

Next week will be a big week and I think Monday is the day to watch for Shams/Woj bombs. Start of a new week and just 3 days before the Draft. Maybe by then we'll also start hearing more definitively what others besides the Lakers are willing to offer

If trading for Davis gets Kyrie to resign, then the deal might be worth it. However, I wouldn't include Tatum for a possible one year rental.

The question is what does the organization think of Jaylen Brown, and does their perceived contract value line up with Brown's camp? After all, Jaylen will be a restricted free agent after next season. Will the Celtics be willing to match a max type contract with Tatum on the horizon?

I think I would make Brown the centerpiece of the deal, along with Smart (salary matching), and picks.

Hmm personally I thing this latest thread should've stood on it's own.

Anyhow I voted a big No. I get it, AD is a top 5 talent etc. etc. etc.

But I think the odds of winning a championship with him next year is nil with what we'll have to give up for him (either Tatum or Brown and Smart at least). Then he will most likely head to another team at the end of next year. I personally don't think that Kyrie is re-signing with us under any circumstances.

I don't see this as comparable at all to Toronto and Kawhi. They basically upgraded one position on a team that had already won 60 games the year before.

I know Danny has been hording assets for years and dreaming of acquiring AD but sometimes things just don't work out the way you want and the most likely outcome is setting us back a few years.

I'm hoping LA beats us out and we can move on with our lives with a definitive direction for the team.

I'm torn on this. Players of AD's caliber don't become available very often. With the Warriors injuries I think an AD trade could lead to a championship. If the Celtics could make a deep playoff run I doubt AD would leave, especially if the Lakers don't have cap space to sign him outright (which I believe is likely).

On the other hand, this past season was one of the least fun seasons as a Celtic fan I can remember. I think a big part of that was Kyrie's looming free agency hanging over the team. The chance that AD's free agency could cause the same problems really scares me. Trading Tatum then watching AD walk is a horrible scenario.

Also, I think Kyrie has made his decision and he isn't coming back regardless of AD.

I think we could contend for the title next year without Kyrie if we traded Tatum and Smart for AD. We would need less luck than Toronto had, but we would need a few things to go well. Brown and Hayward would have to play to their abilities, we'd need to find a point guard that fit, and we'd need good chemistry.

Toronto has Lowry and Gasol aging fast. Philly probably can't keep the same level of talent together and Simmons doesn't seem to want it enough. Milwaukee will be tough, but having Davis and Horford up front would make it much harder for Giannis to just overwhelm us.

It would hurt losing Tatum and Smart, but AD is a monster two way player. Contemplate playing him with Horford, Hayward and Brown. We would be very tough.

With GS probably taking a year off, I would like those chances quite a bit.

If the Celtics do acquire Davis, what do the Lakers end up doing this offseason? Do they sign another max free agent to play alongside LeBron? Or do they stand pat and waste another year of LeBron and wait for Davis to become a free agent? If they end up signing a max free agent, would it even be possible to sign Davis next offseason?

I'm not really comfortable voting based on the choices. I would have said yes if it was Tatum without MEM or Jaylen with MEM...so I consider myself a 'yes' - even if we include Tatum - but no reason to include the MEM pick if that's the case. I guess I'll answer yes, but wanted to explain myself here.

The new poll may save you, but this is one of the most merge-worthy topics of all-time. Well-respected poster, jpotter, put in all kinds of effort last night with a new complex three-way trade idea and that immediately got the merge hammer. I'll be rooting for you!

This is a point that I brought up several weeks ago.  It's really a "New Orleans gets to pick two of these assets" situation for me:

Tatum or Brown
Smart or Memphis pick

The debatable part is whether Smart is more valuable than the Memphis pick.  That's where you'll get different opinions on this.

But bottom line to me, you can't include three of those four in the trade.  Add more picks, and other players (not Horford/Hayward) but New Orleans only gets two of those prime assets.

Unlikely, which is why they are highly motivated to trade for him now.

And certainly the Pels and Celtics have considered this (difficulty of signing him as FA next year).

No new info in that article.  Just speculation.

I'm surprised to see so many "No" responses in the poll.

Are Celts fans less "title or bust" than we might think?

No, it's more a cautious calculation of risk vs. reward and short term vs. long term gain.
