Without the threat of taking the shot he can't be great. I mean if you leave Rondo open he takes the shot. He is not afraid. This is where the 76ers organization needs to make him practice shooting for the entire summer.  Brett Brown's gameplan should require Simmons to take wide open mid-range jumpers and corner threes.  It will be ugly in the beginning but how else do you maximize his talents?

His career isn't done, but both he and Embiid need to change their mindset a bit. They both have an attitude like they deserve to win because they are superstars. It's young pride.

Honestly, an embarrassing 4 game sweep might be what's best for the future of the process. That humiliation might teach them they have to earn everything.

I don't think Embiid's attitude is an issue, I think the 76ers are asking too much of him. He's been gassed both 4th quarters.

I think 37 and 35 minutes are too many for him, especially with the defensive pressure the C's are putting on him and the offensive load the 76ers demand from him. Him having to run to the 3 point line against Baynes/Horford and then recover to the lane, along with all the post ups is too much.

Now some of this is probably conditioning since he missed time with his facial injury, but his fatigue and heavy leagues late have been noticeable.

Fair points but I think there are legitimate long term concerns over his motor for those who believe he can/will be a top tier player.  The eyeball test tells me his flaws are a combination of conditioning(related to injury history) and a lack of mental focus.  Great NBA teams should be able to minimize his impact unless he fixes these problems.   

I think it's fair to use Anthony Davis as the barometer for a modern NBA Center.  Davis has the ability to quarterback a defense, guard any position on the court, and score efficiently on high volume, all while playing 38+ minutes per game.  I would be frightened if he replaced Embiid on the current 76ers squad.

I will admit that I am nitpicking to a certain extent.  My criticism of Embiid is only relative to the hype that many people have placed upon him.

Put Davis on this 76ers team and we almost certainly lose the series.

I do agree about his motor. While he doesn't seem to be a kind of guy who can play 35+, when he hits around 30 he seems to really disengage for some reason

Totally agree. Also, making him guard Al at the perimeter and even having to keep an eye on Baynes in the corner. Embiid is asked to cover a lot of ground and he doesn’t seem to have the wind.

I worry about his lack of dribble penetration. I don't think Simmons can get to the paint often enough off the dribble consistently until he adds a quality jump-shot. He is just too easy to back up off of and too reluctant to / incapable of punishing teams who do so.

Until that changes, I do not see him as a PG. More of a gimmicky point-forward.

Rondo is NOT afraid to take the shot when they back off. Simmons doesn't ever consider it from 12 feet on out.

He's a first year player, this will change.

But upstair s.    ........ Magic had the KG , KD ,MJ drive motivation to win..., I don't see the same

energy and absolute commitment that Magic  imprssed me with.    Simmons is a bit stuck up on himself too ...this may not play i to his favor lattr on with teamates.

When he puts the ball on the floor ,  the quick guards ate learning how to strip him , and they will get better watching video and playing against him , seeing his tendencies.   

He does ok in open court , but the quick hands are bothering him when he tries to get fancy dribbling in too close .   He has t move and move th ball with out dribbling , he is unstoppable .   Rondo like.

Well, Rondo averaged 0.8 three pointers a game while he was with us, so he wasn't exactly all guns blazing from three.

But yes, he did have a functional midrange jump shot in certain situations and he wasn't afraid to take it. The lengths to which he would go to avoid getting to the FT line though...
