One reason to keep our own first rounder is in case of future trades for someone like AD.  We can't be stuck with the Stepien Rule.

If the Lakers' pick doesn't convey this year, and the C's trade their own #1 pick, then in 2018-19 we won't be able to trade multiple 1st round picks (leaving the C's with no 1st rounders for the second consecutive year).

It's a lot of maybes, but it's still something to consider.

The Stepein rule only applies to future drafts.  Previous drafts don't have any impact.

Yeah, I've been accused of being a "prospect hoarder" in terms of MLB and Red Sox lol, and same thing with draft picks for Bruins, Pats & Celtics.

I would NOT be comfortable going into next summer without any draft pick (assuming we trade 2018 BOS 1st for Evans). Much rather give up their own 2019 first rounder, with a likelihood of getting the Clippers and Kings Picks as well next year (and maybe Griz).

I think we've reached a point that teams may no longer deal players with Ainge...only picks and only if the guy is a pending FA.

What do we think the odds are that Evans could get bought out? Then C's could give him full DPE and then 120% of that (which is about 10 mil) to resign him to multiyear deal in off-season?

Anybody knows how Tyreke has been on defense this year? He was supposed to be a solid defensive player out of college. But never really played on good defensive teams...

Can he actually guard in the playoffs?

I'm PRO trading for him

I would like Tyreke joining the Celtics this year.  Long term I dunno.
If we offer a pick and a minor player I'm ok with that.

Certainly not the Memphis or Lakers pick.  But a Celtics own pick?  Yeah, we won't be picking within the top 15 picks anytime soon.

Don't know how accurate the stats here are, but Grizzlies are 2.8 pts better defensively with Evans playing. Also interestingly they are worse offensively and defensively when Gasol plays.

Except this isn't coming from the Celtics camp. DA is good at keeping this stuff quite on his end, but he's not good enough for people from Memphis from talking.

And yet no other team has ever leaked a trade with Ainge,,,,, I challenge you to name one time.

If there is something to this, could be why Smart swiped at a picture frame the other day...

This is a great example of magical thinking.  Magical thinking is defined as believing that one event happens as a result of another without a plausible link of causation.   We know Marcus was probably upset over missing a potential game winning shot and a female had posted pictures of him on social media that upset him.    Your fairy tale trade was never mentioned by Bulpett.

By the way, say "hi" to the Easter Bunny for me and tell "Santa"   those Celtic tickets were appreciated.  JK

Off/on numbers are generally unreliable, especially for dumpster teams like Memphis. He's basically going to be compared to the guy replacing him. If that person sucks, he's going to look like a great defender. The more accurate measure to look at is DBPM (defensive box plus minus) which removes this bias and compares him to the league average defender (0.0). His DBPM is -0.7, which means that's he a slightly below average defender, not terrible. That's not really important though, because his OBPM (offensive box plus minus) is +4.7!! and his VORP (value over replacement player is 2.2). Put that into context, here are our starters VORPs:

Kyrie is 3.2
Brown is 0.7
Tatum is 1.4
Horford is 2.6
Baynes is -0.1
Smart is 0.4

In terms of advanced analytics, he would theoretically be our 3rd most valuable player. So in terms of advanced analytics (and if we consider ourselves contenders for this year), trading our 2018 1st round pick for Tyreke seems like a no-brainer. Add to the mix that just by joining Boston in Brad Stevens' defense, he's going to get a DBPM bump (it seems to be about a 2.0 swing, roughly, based on how the new additions are overachieving here), he could really help us get to the finals.

Don't really care and neither should you. That's not what you need him for.

I certainly would love either Lou Williams or Tyreke Evans, but my guess is with the Griffin trade, DA covets Williams more. But Evans is a perfect Plan B option.

Evans is a positional need, though. You can only get that much from Semi O.

About Semi, I think he can grow into a solid role player for us 2 years from now, but I also have a feeling that in one game in these upcoming playoffs, he's going to surprise us all and have a big game leading us to a victory. Idk, just my gut feeling. (We saw Olynyk do it for us last year in a Game 7, and Gerald Green as well when least expected)
