Was it cnnsi that gave Celtics offseason move a C prior to the Kyrie trade?

If you gave the team a C as well.... What about now ....post Kyrie trade??

It was a mixed bag. On the one hand they got the best free agent to switch teams out there in Gordon Hayward, who with Millsap/Butler/George/Maybe Mello all leaving the conference is pretty much a guaranteed allstar and 20+ppg player. On the other hand the traded away the almost universally touted #1 in Fultz for a still good, but not as highly rate player Tatum and a pick that may very well not convey until 2019. They also paid more for Irving than other stars went for, although you could argue that his immense shot creation ability combined with his age and upside makes that still a good deal. Like any offseason we wont know for a couple years. If Tatum turns out as good or better than Fultz, if the LA pick falls 2-5 and we get a stud big, if Irving makes a Harden/Curry leap into elite offensive weapon, if Hayward has another gear this offseason may be a straight A+. But as it stands we still aren't beating the warriors, we wont be favored vs the Cavs (tho I think theres a shot, unlike this past year), and we traded our best future asset. I give it a B.

Trying to look at this overall, I think Danny finally made a series of moves which fit together, in terms of positioning us to be contenders in a window 2-5 years from now. The guys we gave up would probably be worse in that window, the guys we acquired will probably be better in that window, and the biggest asset we surrendered (BKN 18) might not start to pay off at all until the end of that window.

For people who criticized Ainge for never committing to win now vs. later, the uncertainty seems to be gone.

I agree on all points. Adding that we are set to contend (able to enter the finals) for even longer period, 5/8 years.

As a side note one thing I do like about this offseason is the overall youth. We still have vets like Irving, Hayward, Horford, Morris and Baynes playing big roles but the rest of our primary rotation (Smart, Rozier, Brown, Tatum) are on rookie deals. In addition pretty much all the depth guys are young like Semi, Nader, Yabu. This means that Brad is gonna be forced to give minutes to young guys. Brown messes up and Brad doesn't have the Gerald green, Jonas Jerebko to put in the game. This may mean fewer wins but I think is better for the growth of the team long term. I'd be disappointed if Brown doesn't get 26+ minutes a game.

A respectable B. Signing Hayward is excellent. Kyrie is an upgrade at PG. He's already admitted that he overpaid. Would've given an A if he managed to put protection on the BKN pick.

Agree

Kyrie trade served two purposes

One def opens up min for Brown, Tatum, Smart (in addition AB also gone)...

Take that Josh Jackson

The team in general is better prepared for playoff basketball. No longer are we the tiny Celtics, we've improved our size, and toughness. I think DA saw what many of us saw, at times we were simply overpowered in playoff losses.

I feel the loss of Crowder and AB, may have have an effect on our early overall defense. I think Danny has done a nice job transforming this team into a better playoff team on paper.

IMO This team will be much better later in the season than early. We will have some getting aquatinted pains to endure.

B+

F really??

The F's crack me up.   Notice that no one posted I gave an F because it is little more than a contrarian outlook.   Maybe Crowder and IT voted?   JK

I gave an A but that is really a pre-grade.   None of us know how it will work out on the court until we see them play together.  Talentwise on paper we are a better if one can look past one's emotions.

I voted "F." If there were more options, I probably would've said "D-," but given the options, I thought it was closer to an "F" than "D."

Are you still hung up danny not drafting Fultz?

Would you rather have Fultz, Kyrie, Hayward?
