another report said the teams havent even spoken to each other yet. that first call will be real interesting and direct where this will all go

Celtics, Cavs Haven't Been In Contact On Amended Trade

The Cleveland Cavaliers and Boston Celtics have not been in touch since reports surfaced more trade compensation would be needed to complete their trade of Kyrie Irving for Isaiah Thomas, Jae Crowder, Ante Zizic and the Brooklyn Nets' 2018 first round pick.

Cleveland began to seek additional compensation after examining Thomas, who is recovering from a hip injury.

The sides have until Thursday to void the deal, agree upon an amended trade or extend the deadline.

The Celtics don't have a contingency plan in place on how to handle the stalemate.

Boston feels like they were transparent with Koby Altman when a trade agreement was reached about the timeline of when Thomas can return.

The Celtics refused to trade either Jayson Tatum or Jaylen Brown during initial talks with the Cavaliers and they're unlikely to include them now

This is just so effing weird.  So the Cavs leak to the press that they want extra comp for ITs hip, but they haven't even spoken to Celtics brass??

This is all a bunch of BS that they are using to settle Cleveland fans down prior to their announcement that IT is out for the year with hip surgery.

The article says:

"The Cavaliers could be inclined to complete the deal for a late first-round pick or second-round considerations, league sources said."

I know many people want them to pound sand, but if 2nd round considerations are all it takes, I'd do it just to be done with this.

"There's never been an indication that I wouldn't be back, and there's never been an indication that this is something messing up my career," Thomas told ESPN. "Maybe I am not going to be back as soon this season as everyone wants me to be, but I'm going to be back, and I'm going to be the same player again. No doctor has told me anything different than that."

Thomas, 28, is entering the final year of his contract, and has been expected to be in line for a $100 million-plus contract in free agency. He had the best season of his career last year, averaging 28.9 points a game. In his three seasons with the Celtics, Thomas emerged as one of the NBA's elite guards. He was chosen an Eastern Conference All-Star twice.

"I haven't had one doctor tell me that this injury is going to hurt my career," Thomas said. "Surgery was not the best option in this case. I aggravated it in March when [Minnesota's] Karl-Anthony Towns fell on me. I kept playing on it, and making it worse -- until I couldn't play anymore last season."

Dr. Bryan Kelly is one of the best orthopedic MD's in the country. Ultimately, if it comes down to surgery at some point, he's one of 2 east coast doctors I'd recommend.

Why? They agreed to the trade as is.  Why should they extort another pick?

This was their plan all along. Set up Deal A, but use IT's injury to get Deal B. Which backfired a bit when people started to say they were crazy asking for Brown and Tatum after getting the Nets pick already for a guy who wants out.
