They're going to ask for Tatum or brown?

At this point, I'd rather kill deal,  trade for IT for picks and maybe expiring , and keep zizic Bk pick

No offense to Thomas but he isn't helping anyone this season win. Dude is damaged and eventually it is going to come down to surgery.

So if Danny needs to make a plan that replaces him immediately because smart, rozier and Larkin are not the answer. Without a healthy Thomas and without his production Boston is a 4 seed and wins maybe on round of the playoffs.

Keeping Thomas is a step back for the franchise

Have to prepare for it being season ending imo

Thanks for that projection but you're simply talking out of your backside. You have no idea what's going to happen with his hip.

more from Woj says Cleveland will ask for Tatum or Brown, says Celts will refuse adding anything.

HAHAHAHA, that's rich.

The only part I do agree with is that both teams are (probably unfairly) dragging Thomas' value through the mud right now.

Thomas has zero value to anyone at this point. Nobody out there wants a 5'9 guard that has a bad hip. Hoping he doesn't come back to Boston.

FTFY.

If it wasn't for the total lack of professionalism going on in Cleveland right now, both teams would have already introduced their new players to the media and we would all be talking about line-ups and championship aspirations for next year.

Instead, IT is now seen as a 90 year old grandmother who can't walk or hold a basketball in his hands. I understand that he apparently wasn't going to be ready for the start of the season, but his return date would have [quietly] just been pushed back a couple of times until he was ready to play. People are actually talking like he may never play in the NBA again. Poor guy - he deserves a lot better than this.

IT obviously is not very happy. If the deal falls through we may have to ship IT elsewhere don't think they'll be able to mend fences.

Quote
One source said “his agent has gone off the grid” in reference to Thomas, describing the point guard’s dismay with the Celtics. Later, the source added that Thomas’ camp “is very unhappy with Boston’s front office.”

And also from the article

Rumor has it the Celtics are willing to throw in a second-round pick to “sweeten the deal.” Rumor has it the Cavs want another first, if not another player.

Thomas should of had the surgery and he would be ready to go. Instead he wanted to chase the big contract this season. The hip is going to nag him all year where he plays a little, misses games, etc. he just is not reliable anymore. Just not good enough. No way he duplicates last season.

Amico's article is spot on. Having to keep Thomas hurts them more at pg. keeping a malcontent like crowder and Thomas is not a good thing

Boston is not inclined to add anything else to the trade completed this week centered around Kyrie Irving, one source told The Athletic Saturday night. The source, who spoke on condition of anonymity given the sensitive nature of the talks, insisted the Celtics were upfront with the Cavs on everything and that nothing on the physical should've surprised anyone. Thomas flew into Cleveland on Friday for his physical. Although Thomas bruised his hip in March, one source said Thomas has always dealt with structural issues to the hip and it has never been an issue. While no one reached by The Athletic on Saturday was willing to put a timeline on when Thomas might return to action, the Celtics don't sound like a franchise willing to increase their offer. One source indicated Saturday the Celtics' final offer of Thomas, Jae Crowder, Ante Zizic and Brooklyn's unprotected first-round pick was their best offer. There will be no more negotiating.

Take it or leave it

That's exactly the response I expected from the C's.

This is the right response.  I do not think this was an easy trade for Danny Ainge to make - he loves IT and he does not want to give up assets like the Brooklyn pick.

He went way overboard with the offer to make sure it went through, given ITs health.  This is the best Cleveland will get, and while I think they should still rescind the trade because IT is likely a dud for next season, they are not getting anything more from Boston.

If this deal dies Boston has no legit starting point guard. They have three  back up and a damaged Thomas. This season will be a step back if this is the case.

Getting the pick back is great but this is not a pg draft. It is a wing and big draft.

I would be more than happy with Marcus as the starting PG.

I thought i heard him say several occasions......he understood basketball was a business ......and if it happens ......well nothing you can do but move on .

Im wondering if IT was being totally up front with the FO about his injury ......giving them the Im ok , and im gonna play .......his brinks truck was riding on playing at Boston .

It will harder to get a max from ANY team but Boston ......even if he was 100%  healthy .

Danny TOLD IT im gonna make you a star ....and he did .....he held up his end .....IT broke down ,  not Dannys fault .

Never thought I'd see a GM as smart and experienced as Danny overpay so badly but hey it seems the Cavs want to hand him a Mulligan. I'd say take it and even it out..

I do think the trade will be rescinded. I think the Cavs simply feel IT is in worse shape than they thought..

I think this will get done with a 2nd round pick, so that CLE can save face.  Doubt Ainge would offer anything else.

Also wonder if both sides could agree to let Silver decide what should happen, after presenting the facts.

On Cavs forum, many think either give the lakers pick unprotected or Smart with Memphis or Tatum/or Brown and Memphis. I say NO to all of those 100 times out of 100. They believe their GM has Danny over the coals. I wonder if its rescinded, IT will opt for surgery and miss entire season now and never put  on Celtics uniform again. It sounds like he might never get over this with our front office.

I say give them Rozier and take back Zizic. Then they have a guard for insurance and it is a little more.

It's obvious from posts like this that a LOT of people are going to be really disappointed with the final outcome of this scenario.  I can already hear Bill Simmons lamenting how the Cavs screwed over the Celtics.

But give credit where credit is due, Danny overplayed his hand.  He waited for all the stars to be off the market before offering a young GM (Koby Altman) a slight overpay for Kyrie.

Once it was clear the Celtics had burned bridges with their two most expendable players the Cavs leveraged IT's hip injury for even MORE assets.

Now if you're Danny Ainge you're faced with these realities:
1.  There is now 0% chance IT is going to resign in Boston after this.
2.  If taken back, Crowder is now going to be a full blown malcontent.
3.  If you don't get Kyrie in this trade you face having 0 superstars on the team as soon as next season, with no cap room to sign free agents.
4.  Without Isaiah or Kyrie you've effectively sacrificed the next two seasons.

Face it, Ainge got outplayed by a rookie GM from Middlebury.  His only real option is to posture for a while to save face and then give up an asset to make this deal go through.  At this point I'm just really hoping the damage is limited to LA/Sac #1, Smart, or Rozier and not Tatum or Brown.
you would be a terrible businessman and negotiator. LA pick? BWAHAHAHAHAHA  are u insane? WE ALREADY GAVE THEM THE BROOKLYN PICK TO MAKE UP FOR IT's INJURY! THE CAVS CAN POUND SAND. i tell u what i will throw in a bag of classic ABA red white and blue basketballs. how about that?

No...no basketballs, no ice creams, NOTHING......snakes.

LOL
LET'S GO CELTICS!

Just some random ramblings/thoughts -

Was IT completely truthful with BOS about his hip? Did Danny and Brad know the extent of it?

Do even "WE" know the whole truth?

I think IT does.

I love what he did for BOS but I wish he would've shut himself down IMMEDIATELY once he hurt himself the SECOND time (against CLE in the ECF, right?)

If he would've did that then perhaps he would've been out a few months. A downer for sure but he'd still be a Celtic.

I'm hoping that the Brinks truck comments could've been negotiable but from IT's POV he deserved it.

"I" believe he deserves The Brinks - or CLOSE to it.

My thinking is that come next Summer 2018 he'd either get a Brinks or take a cut (like Durant did) in the event that another significant piece became available for BOS. I have no idea how that would look salary-wise OR who else Danny could target next year but I'd find it hard to believe that IT - loving BOS as he did - would NOT take a pay cut in the event of us getting another piece.

This appears to be water under the bridge now, unfortunately.

Now - on the surface to ME, at least - it appears that IT "MAY" not have been completely truthful to Danny or Brad about his hip. I could be COMPLETELY wrong (and I am sometimes), but this whole thing stinks.

OR - Danny knew fully well about the hip and was trying to look out for BOS's best interests?

Was he (IT) ignoring the hip issue in hopes of getting paid? If so it was foolish of him to put money before his health. At WORST he should've got the surgery and simply missed some time and come back stronger than ever.

Maybe in his mind doing THIS would've cost him his brinks. So what? He'd STILL get paid a LOT more than what he is getting paid now, regardless - especially if he even sniffed 2016-2017 play.

IT's desire to WIN reminds me SO MUCH of KG. He would've made it back from this.

We now have a rookie upstart GM in CLE that is trying to upstage one of the best GM in the NBA and SO MUCH speculation with all of this.

LeBron (and his camp) staying coy about this all but I'm certain that even THEY are manipulating things behind the scenes.

Just a hot mess all around. We can't seem to catch a break in BOS. First we had Gordon-Gate with UTAH and that kept us all on a string for a few days now THIS.
