I think this will get done with a 2nd round pick, so that CLE can save face.  Doubt Ainge would offer anything else.

Also wonder if both sides could agree to let Silver decide what should happen, after presenting the facts.

There is no way a 2nd round pick saves this deal.  You can buy 2nd round picks every draft.

Cleveland examined IT and determined that he needs surgery.  He will miss most if not all of the season.  This dramatically changes their value in the trade.  It is that simple.

They should rescind the trade.

Look, I am a huge Ainge defender/proponent and I will be the first to say I think he screwed this all up.

He knew that IT may have needed surgery, he had to know that IT could fail the physical, and he had to know that Cleveland could rescind the trade for that reason.  The fact that he would include the Brooklyn pick confirms this for me.

I may be wrong in the end but if this trade goes through and the Cs do not win a Championship and that Brooklyn pick turns into a perennial All-Star, or if Kyrie leaves in 2 years, its a huge loss for Boston.

And if it is rescinded...Ainge will look like a fool.

If the Celtics were truly transparent and the physical came out with nothing new then Ainge can't possibly let the trade be changed. Otherwise everyone will want to do this all the time.

What's the point of being transparent if other teams can just turn around and say "Oh yeahhh...um...no. Need more"?

What's the point of even making a deal?

Nobody will deal with the Cavs if they do this. They'll have to overpay every time.

Just some random ramblings/thoughts -

Was IT completely truthful with BOS about his hip? Did Danny and Brad know the extent of it?

Do even "WE" know the whole truth?

I think IT does.

I love what he did for BOS but I wish he would've shut himself down IMMEDIATELY once he hurt himself the SECOND time (against CLE in the ECF, right?)

If he would've did that then perhaps he would've been out a few months. A downer for sure but he'd still be a Celtic.

I'm hoping that the Brinks truck comments could've been negotiable but from IT's POV he deserved it.

"I" believe he deserves The Brinks - or CLOSE to it.

My thinking is that come next Summer 2018 he'd either get a Brinks or take a cut (like Durant did) in the event that another significant piece became available for BOS. I have no idea how that would look salary-wise OR who else Danny could target next year but I'd find it hard to believe that IT - loving BOS as he did - would NOT take a pay cut in the event of us getting another piece.

This appears to be water under the bridge now, unfortunately.

Now - on the surface to ME, at least - it appears that IT "MAY" not have been completely truthful to Danny or Brad about his hip. I could be COMPLETELY wrong (and I am sometimes), but this whole thing stinks.

OR - Danny knew fully well about the hip and was trying to look out for BOS's best interests?

Was he (IT) ignoring the hip issue in hopes of getting paid? If so it was foolish of him to put money before his health. At WORST he should've got the surgery and simply missed some time and come back stronger than ever.

Maybe in his mind doing THIS would've cost him his brinks. So what? He'd STILL get paid a LOT more than what he is getting paid now, regardless - especially if he even sniffed 2016-2017 play.

IT's desire to WIN reminds me SO MUCH of KG. He would've made it back from this.

We now have a rookie upstart GM in CLE that is trying to upstage one of the best GM in the NBA and SO MUCH speculation with all of this.

LeBron (and his camp) staying coy about this all but I'm certain that even THEY are manipulating things behind the scenes.

Just a hot mess all around. We can't seem to catch a break in BOS. First we had Gordon-Gate with UTAH and that kept us all on a string for a few days now THIS.
Bron can't stand the Celtics I wouldn't doubt if this was the case. He didn't welcome IT or Crowder.

Yeah, I'm still calling BS on this.

I still think they're exaggerating their "different interpretation" to try and get more out of Boston, which is evidenced by what they're asking for in addition to the package. While IT certainly could be worse than they thought, I do not think the difference in interpretation is as sizable as their asking price is suggesting.

Otherwise, this is purely a failure of comprehension on Cleveland's part. By all accounts Danny was more than forthcoming regarding IT's injury, so the fact that Cleveland underestimated his injury and overplayed their hand shouldn't necessarily be grounds for reneging on the contract. That's the only explanation that makes sense, because no reasonable person thinks Kyrie equals that package without there being risk with IT's injury, which is evidenced by most of the media calling this a major overpay as soon as it happened.
Recovering Joe Skeptic, but inching towards a relapse.

Right. Because he didn't play with Allen, House, Perkins, as well as coached by Posey and Potapenko. Not to mention currently coached by Lue, who was a former C's assistant.

He'll take heat because he always does but for Cleveland to accept a deal before being sure what they are getting is just beyond bad management. Maybe if they hadn't fired their GM this could have been prevented. Everybody is ready to get out of Cleveland for a reason. Great work Dan Gilbert 👍

It will be interesting to see if Danny does file some sort of complaint or a request for an investigation if it is canceled. He was apparently pretty ticked after hearing this news, so he must truly feel that he was transparent in this situation.

I think a third party should review IT's condition and determine whether or not Cleveland's claims are reasonable. If not, they should be compelled to complete the trade as is, if not also additional punishment.

Again the deal is not about IT. Hell they won't even resign him. The deal is about the pick and trying to get Tatum. The Cavs love him and want him more than anything.

Danny is not giving him up. Cavs need to take a late 1st rounder or a few #2s and move forward.

https://twitter.com/cavs

So the Cavs twitter just added a pick with IT and Crowder talking about preseason. I know the front office doesn't run twitter, but you'd think if they weren't happy with what they are getting in IT they would put the word out not to use him in promos.

If it's rescinded, Cleveland looks greedy.  Ainge looks like a fool for having traded away that Brooklyn pick.  a rescinded trade saves him in that regard.

Per @ChrisMannixYS on @CSNNE, #Celtics will draw line in sand. May part with a 2nd Rd pick to complete #Cavs deal. No firsts/Brown/Tatum.
