A lot of downsides to Cleveland rescinding the deal, but one underrated one - Kyrie waived his 15% trade kicker to come here. It's unlikely he'd do the same to go to a less desirable location.

That makes him less appealing to his destination but also means Cleveland would have to take more salary back, which has a multiplier effect with them being well into the luxury tax, and the repeater tax to boot.

Thinking more about this - if Irving wanted to lock in the trade, it seems like telling the Cavs and other suitors he won't waive his kicker for any other deal would be a pretty big step toward sealing it.

It not only costs the receiving team but Cleveland likely has to take back more salary and pay a ton more in luxury tax than they're looking at now.

After examining Isaiah Thomas, the Cavaliers will seek an additional trade asset from Boston. (via @wojespn)

Boston believes it was completely transparent w/Cleveland on IT's hip injury, per sources. Expect Celtics to strongly resist any sweetener.

This is what I was hoping to hear.

Me too. The Cavs can pound sand. Everyone in the world knew about IT's injury, so there was no way Ainge could hide the truth, even if he wanted to. Cavs are just being jerks.

yep. screw those assclowns

So if I were the Cavs I'd ask for rozier as well but I wouldn't give up that asset since they are already getting the Brooklyn 18 on top of jae and it4.  I would be willing to throw in demtrius Jackson but I'd want a 2nd rounder back.

You can't sabotage an MRI, which is what I am guessing is at the center of this issue.

But you can fake range of motion, pain etc, to make something look a lot worse.   MRIs no, but there are a lot of other things a guy can pull.

I'm hyped, really hope that the Cavs void it and we eventually end up with Kyrie cheaper or we roll with a super motivated IT.

Lol.....that is exactly what Celtics should offer them, a player they already cut ...lol. Maybe they fall for it, they already agreed to take an injured player.

  • Peace it's a board. We all will never agree.
I say give them Rozier and take back Zizic. Then they have a guard for insurance and it is a little more.
"People look at players, watch them dribble between their legs and they say, 'There's a superstar.'  Well John Havlicek is a superstar, and most of the others are figments of writers' imagination."

This is what I'd do as a max offer. TP.

It's obvious from posts like this that a LOT of people are going to be really disappointed with the final outcome of this scenario.  I can already hear Bill Simmons lamenting how the Cavs screwed over the Celtics.

But give credit where credit is due, Danny overplayed his hand.  He waited for all the stars to be off the market before offering a young GM (Koby Altman) a slight overpay for Kyrie.

Once it was clear the Celtics had burned bridges with their two most expendable players the Cavs leveraged IT's hip injury for even MORE assets.

Now if you're Danny Ainge you're faced with these realities:
1.  There is now 0% chance IT is going to resign in Boston after this.
2.  If taken back, Crowder is now going to be a full blown malcontent.
3.  If you don't get Kyrie in this trade you face having 0 superstars on the team as soon as next season, with no cap room to sign free agents.
4.  Without Isaiah or Kyrie you've effectively sacrificed the next two seasons.

Face it, Ainge got outplayed by a rookie GM from Middlebury.  His only real option is to posture for a while to save face and then give up an asset to make this deal go through.  At this point I'm just really hoping the damage is limited to LA/Sac #1, Smart, or Rozier and not Tatum or Brown.

Yeah, but you're wrong. Woj was just on ESPN and he said that the price will likely be the C's own pick, the Memphis one, or the Clippers one. That's if they get anything all, as he said Ainge feels he was straightforward about the hip.
