According to Detroit Bad Boys, a Pistons fan responded to me...

"You'll love Baynes.
And please carry his legacy onto your board.
You shall call him Lobster-Hands.
Other than his lobstery hands:
He has great positioning, he is a vocal leader on D, he always stays vertical when he contests shots at the rim ( and opponents usually end up on their butts ), he sets the meanest screen in all of basketball, he can operate at the elbow (which i’m sure Stevens will love ) and
when he is not rocking the man bun ( * cringe * )
he has the highest head-rubs/36 in the NBA."

Sounds like we got an even better Kendrick Perkins?  8)
lol Nice.

My buddy who's a Pistons fan texted me, "Solid backup center but a complete bull in a china shop."

Which sounds like exactly what the Celtics needed. :)

Baynes will also be a good mentor for Zizic.

This was a total head-scratcher for me, until I saw his career 81% FT%, then watched the YouTube highlights vs OKC posted earlier in the thread:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-9AzWGmhCfY

He is not a stiff, actually very smooth operator near the rim, and can hit a 15-foot jumper.  Essentially, this is exactly what we were hoping for from Zizic.

The backdown of Sabonis on the post shows his strength.

There was a similar Zeller video shared on here the day we signed him.  Same type of thing, about 20 points on stickbacks, and FTs, and dump off dunks, with one elbow jumper and one back down post move against a smaller defender.

I wish I could post a video of my best game and let folks think that was me every night!

Sorry, not criticizing your post at all.  TP for sharing some highlights of Baynes!  I just hope people don't think we're getting that every night, or every other night, or every fifth night.  That might be a once in 20 games kind of thing.

So we go from Kelly's man-bun to whatever that is growing on top of Baynes's head?  ;D

I wanted Dedmon, but I like this signing a lot.  Good tough veteran big that can rebound and defend on a cheap deal

I think his some of his weaknesses can be addressed if Stevens pair him up with Horford or Morris right

Fair enough, Nick.  I knew very little about the guy up until 20 minutes ago, only that he is a big body.  I have no doubt he will have many mediocre games.  I'll add to that he can't operate outside 15 feet, and that could be an issue for spacing.

One thing to add -

Baynes has always excelled playing for Australia in FIBA. This is important because Australia offense, like ours, is predicated on ball movement and constant off-ball action.

I like how before July 4th...many Celtics fans were screaming "DO SOMETHING DANNY AINGE!!!" "all the free agents pool list are emptying out..." "we're screwed"...

fast-forward to July 9th.

Signed Gordon Hayward, traded for Marcus Morris, and now picked up Aron Baynes. Also, Jayson Tatum looking like a veteran stud out there in SL games.

Great signing for a good price. Fills a huge need for us on the boards. Between them, Morris and Hayward will easily fill Kelly's scoring, so I'm not worried about Baynes' offensive production at all. Just need someone to provide toughness down on the block when other teams go big on us, and Baynes can certainly help with that.

I remember this guy most for being posterized multiple times by Blake Griffin in 2015.

Just what I predicted. I figured Danny was on the phones getting some experience at the 5, and he got just that in Baynes. Originally drafted by SA, so you know he's a D guy. Tough Aussie. 5 years in the league. Not a scorer. He brings toughness and D. Maybe a few rebounds.

Looks like Baynes may have taken a pay cut to come to Boston. He could have made about $6.5M in Detroit.

Celtics just got a little tougher up front.

He's a Kiwi....Its actually better! LOL

No he isn't.

That's a dream off-season yet he will still get murdered in Boston.

Coulda had Jahil Okafor. Instead we got this 31 year old

We could have had a horrible player. Instead we got a role player who knows his role and excels at filling it.
