Love, love, love this signing. Last year our team was a bit soft at times, especially in the bigs department. But adding Morris, Baynes, and Zizic should really make us a lot tougher as a team. I'm really loving our depth chart about now:

PG: IT, Rozier
SG: Brown, Smart, Green (?)
SF: Hayward, Crowder, Semi
PF: Morris, Tatum, Yabu
C: Horford, Baynes, Zizic

That is a DEEP team. If we stay healthy, with being in the East and our overall talent and depth, we have a chance at being a 65 win team, and I really don't think that's hyperbole. With that depth, great mix of youth and vets, and overall talent level, we have "elite regular season team" written all over us.
Recovering Joe Skeptic, but inching towards a relapse.

Just what I predicted. I figured Danny was on the phones getting some experience at the 5, and he got just that in Baynes. Originally drafted by SA, so you know he's a D guy. Tough Aussie. 5 years in the league. Not a scorer. He brings toughness and D. Maybe a few rebounds.

Looks like Baynes may have taken a pay cut to come to Boston. He could have made about $6.5M in Detroit.

Celtics just got a little tougher up front.

He's a Kiwi....Its actually better! LOL

No he isn't.

You're both right. Born in New Zealand, grew up in Australia. Identifies as an Aussie.

Sorry to sound stupid and clueless, but can someone give me insight into Baynes?

4.4 rebounds a game only? Is that mainly because of Drummond being on the team too?

And are we officially no longer interested in guys like Dedmon?

In ONLY 15 minutes per game!!

Dreb% around 22.

Better than anyone on Boston last year.

Can't be disappointed with someone whose nickname is 'Bangers'. All we need now i some mash.

Has a decent midrange jumpshot, based on what I see in BBRef breakdowns.

Also, that's a pretty decent replacement for Zeller's minutes. Nice move.

Finally Danny

Legit size....looks like has a 7 plus wingspan, 9'2 plus reach.  Can move/jump a little

Baynes is now the best rebounder on the C's. I'm expecting the Amir Johnson kinda role but much much better. He's 1 inch taller, 20 pounds heavier, has a 3 inch longer wingspan, has spent most of his career on a winning team, has a ring etc.

good pick up for the price.

I'm excited too, but you're going to be disappointed if 65 wins is a target.  That's championship elite, and the Celtics won't be there without one more major acquisition or substantial growth from Brown or Tatum. 55-58 wins is where I see us -- legitimately improved, perhaps the top team in the conference, but we're still a pretty young and inexperienced team, relying on multiple players who are not yet of legal drinking age for significant contributions.  We could have up to 7 players who are rookies or in their second year.  There will be very real growing pains.  There's a lot of talent in the depth, but short on inexperience, and during a long season with both injuries and necessary rest, that will put a lower ceiling on the wins.

So now Amir, Zeller, Olynyk, Jerebko and Bradley have been replaced by:

Baynes, Zizic, Morris, Theis and Rozier?

Amir-Baynes

Zeller-Zizic

Olynyk-Morris

Jerebko-Theis

Bradley-Rozier

it look to me that Ainge made a concerted effort to add toughness and rebounding to the roster while still keeping with the versatility that Stevens desires. This also opens up playing time for Rozier who Ainge stated he feels is ready.

Those moves also allowed us to afford adding Hayward, and we still added Tatum.

60 wins isn't some unattainable goal. The East got worse the C's got much better.

  • Peace it's a board. We all will never agree.
I think he is a great pickup. He can bang. Watching last year since he and Morris are on my keeper league. He played some tough minutes. The announcer said he should get more minutes and he had been out playing Drummond. I think we have a steal he can teach the kid how to use his body too. Great job again DA. Now I have more reasons to watch Celtic basketball.

the C's got much better.

Did they make some move nobody knows about?  Without that, the idea that they got much better seems..... overly optimistic.
