I told you we had little leverage until we badly traded one of our three "expendable" players. And people was thinking the other way. Time was running out and Hayward has already given up some money to sign here. After all, it's not a bad trade given we obtain a starting-caliber PF.

I hate seeing Bradley go, my favourite Celtic last years  :'( :'(
Woj said two other teams were interested in Bradley. If that's the best deal it could get it's just sad. Might have been better off just waiving him.

Or just keep him this year and let us have a great year and let him go into free agency.
That was my preferred plan as well. But no, we just have to add Crowder clones instead of getting rid of them.

I just don't get this at all.  DA has to have had more options than this.  Or there is another shoe to drop??  It mades zero sense to keep a p---ed off crowder, coming off the bench when we just signed his replacement, and drafted another replacement, and have brown developing as well.

I GET TO KEEP MY CROWDER JERSEY!

Don't get too excited, he still could be on the block.

Crowder isnt going anywhere now unless a Gasol or other big trade comes through...
The only way to get Gasol was to pack Bradley, Crowder, and Smart. That ship has sailed.

Yes, we'd have been WAY better off getting rid of him for nothing (including tax relief, since salaries don't disappear off your cap just because you waive a guy)  ::)
I'm bitter.

That was my hope.

Why do we dump our best defender just to get a bit of cash to sign GH?.  Figure out another way to do it DA.  I hope there is another shoe to fall.  Shipping off our best defender for someone like Morris is such a net loss for the team.
there weren't enough minutes to keep smart Bradley and crowder. 1 had to go and AB was as good as gone after this year.
No, there aren't enough minutes for Hayward, Tatum and Crowder ... and Ainge just "solved" this issue by adding Morris to this same mix. Brilliant move...

Morris is more of a 4 while Crowder should only see spot minutes there, Tatum's big enough but almost certainly not ready, and Hayward won't be there much either.

Think of Morris more as a replacement for Olynyk than an additional SF.

Why are you assuming he'll clear wavers?

Maybe Crowder wont' be coming off the bench.

Well that is a bit sad. I guess Avery made a better choice than Crowder because Crowder is under contract for a few more years. Help balance the books with quality depth moving forward.

I hope Jaylen or Smart starts at SG next year. Let Hayward stay at SF.

Use Crowder as a 6th man.

Yes, for sure. I'd love to see Jaylen earn the starting role, but Smart might start the season there.

Horford / Theis / Zizic
Morris / Crowder / Yabu
Hayward / Tatum / Nader
Smart / Jaylen
IT / Rozier / Jackson

That team needs more experience on the bench, and an additional big man who can play, but it's a really fun team.

AGAIN making sense!

I like that line up, Smart can play with IT, Hayward and Horford and be a defensive monster and not have to try to create offense. He fits well showing his strengths and hiding his weakness.

I think Smart comes off the bench and runs the second unit.  Brown or Crowder (moving Hayward down to SG) move into the starting lineup, giving us better shooting and size in the starting lineup

I hope not. When Smart is on the floor with the second unit he tends to shoot more which is bad for the team.

Who did we have in the second unit that was a better scorer than Smart last year? Kelly was when he was on, but who else? Now he'll be playing with Tatum (a rookie, but a natural scorer), Brown/Crowder (depending on who starts), and possibly a vet that we bring in through FA.  He'll take a lot less of a scoring load if he plays next to guys that can actually put the ball in the basket instead
I'm bitter.

So to me, the remaining moves are either pick up one of these 5's that are now on the market for cheap - or package Smart & Crowder for an impact 5.

I bet you the Lakers offered a better package for AB but Danny turned it down considering AB would make the Lakers too good for us to get their draft pick.

I'm betting we'll see Hayward, Crowder, Morris starting. This is going to be a pretty fluid lineup with Jaylen and Jayson probably coming in an playing minutes spread across the 2-3-4.

I loved Avery. I would've loved to see him stay but this was necessary.

Does this make Jaylen Brown the new starting 2?

I would've waited until the trading deadline to trade AB.

After some googling I found out he also is an inch shorter than his brother (6'9 vs 6'10).

The Jeff Green comparison is a good one.

Avery Bradley = terrific two way player who improves every season

Marcus Morris = undersized medicore PF who doesn't rebound or defend well for his position

nice trade, Danny....

This wasn't necessarily a trade for talent  (see salary situations).

I'm cautiously optimistic.  His FG% and 2PT% are lower than ideal and he grabbed just under 5 rebounds a game in starters minutes the past 3 years, but he did play next to Drummond, a rebounding beast who grabbed 14/per the past 3 years and led the NBA in '15-'16.  I'm hoping that next to Al, Morris could jump from 5/game to 7/game.

There really are things to like about him though, especially since we kinda got him for free (besides having AB this year) due to AB's impending FA.  In the past 2-4 seasons he:

-Averaged over 80 games a year in the past 4 years, so he was durable and available.

-Averaged 14 points/game in his 2 years in Detroit, so he can score some (on 12.2 shots).

-Shot 36% on 3's the past 4 years including a down year last year (over 3 attempts/game).

-Competent passer averaging 2+ assists/game, 10%+ assist% in 2 years with Detroit.

-Averaged 4.38 win shares a year in the past 4 years (AB had 3.05, missed time hurt this).

-In the playoffs vs. Cavs in '15-'16, had a great series.  Per game: 17.8 points, ~3 boards & assists, 39% on 3's, 62%+ TS%, 16.7 PER, 11.6 assist%, all on a low 21.7% usage rate.

I hope he rebounds and pick his spots to shoot more on our stacked team, but IMO he has positives.  I'll miss AB, but he was leaving after this year.  I'm happy we only lose 1 guy to get Hayward/manage our cap instead of 2 (Crowder/Smart now & AB next year).
