I don't get the front page article's contention that trading Crowder is a curious move. It makes perfect sense.

Crowder doesn't add much value once you factor in Hayward and the young guys. He's an ok defender whose only real offense is spot up shooting. More importantly, Crowder will not handle a reduced role very well, especially not for Hayward. IMO, Crowder would have to go even if salaries were a complete non-issue.

That we're trading him first instead of the two guys on short contracts peaks volumes.

Completely agree. Crowder played a lot of matador defense late last season and during the playoffs, there was a noticeable drop off in his effort on that side of the floor. He also doesn't fit the team culture, he's too emotional and reacts poorly when his teammates make mistakes. I got the impression that he never really bought in to the culture that we have established.

Man, I hope the unclear detail is us getting at least a wst round pick from Utah as well.

It would be really disappointing if we just let Crowder go for nothing.

Plus dont they receive a huge trade exception?

At least a 1st round swap

Come on man he helped turn the culture around when he got here. You guys are too much sometimes, he did slip some last year but it is what he is he's just not that good. He's a good bench guy but you're expecting too much out of him.

I like Crowder a lot.  He's a very nice rotation player.  Smart and Bradley are on a different level IMO.  They aren't all-stars, but both are high level contributors.   Hayward, IT, Horford, Smart, Bradley, Brown, Tatum, Zizic...  Very solid.  And I think there is more to come this off-season.

Sounds like Crowder is a goner to Utah. Wonder what they get back in return

Some kid named Hayward.

Yeah, we need to sacrifice someone to make room, but I don't want to pull a Red Sox smear campaign as soon as someone leaves.

It's ok to say "this guy was good, thanks for his contributions, but we think this will improve the team" rather than cheering him for a year then saying "we were happy to get him out of here he sucks."

Again, we are not getting nothing in a sign and trade of Crowder.  We are getting Gordon Hayward, which would not be possible without shedding salary.  DA is up against it.  We should just be happy if the Celts do not have to give up additional assets to shed salary.

And Crowder is on a good deal.  But he's a JAG.  A bench guy on a contending team.  We don't have to cry about losing a guy like that (as much as i appreciate what he's done for the team).

The problem is that a rotation player for a contender on a team-friendly deal should fetch something even if the Celtics have no leverage. Teams would still be competing with each other to acquire him, so it's not like the lack of leverage should lead to us getting nothing. I'd take a pick that's protected in a manner that makes it unlikely to be more than a future second over nothing.
The problem is finding the exact scenario (team under the cap, with a trade exception, or a player making less than crowder within the paramaters of the cba) that wants crowder and is essentially willing to do Ainge the favor he needs. That market may be very very dry.

That why, if I am a team dealing with Ainge, the deal is simple.  You get the cap relief you need and I get Crowder.  Unfortunately, while lot of teams would like to have Crowder, there probably isn't any team that feels like they NEED crowder.

I would too, but not surprised. Maybe a future highly protected pick.

They are likely to be a middling team this year.

Maybe a first with lottery protection for a few years, then it turns into 2 second rounders?

Seems like a decent bet for both sides.

if the Celtics sign and traded Crowder and Jackson to the Jazz after releasing Mickey and stashing Yabuselle then they could sign a free agent prior to the Jazz sign and trade transaction to the tune of about $6,254,691 in the first year. If we traded Crowder to other team for no salary we could sign a free agent for $5,338,691 in the first year and then sign Hayward as a free agent, i think the celtics are looking to make another minor free agent

The 6 mill figure is wrong in sceranios the amiunt of cap space for a free agent is the same

Would anyone be interested in Exum? He's not a roster fit need, but could take a chance on him.  Hasn't done much at all in his first 2 years, but still only 21.  Not sure how the Jazz feel about him now.

Maybe Crowder, Rozier, Jackson for Exum and some sort of pick.  I'm not sure if by taking back Exum's salary if it's too much for the max cap space.
