Kelly is base year, only 50% counts for salary matching

You're right, that puts the kibosh on that.

A suggestion from LarBrd33 in exile:

Boston signs and trades KO (4 years, $20 million starting salary, decreasing yearly); Jerebko (3 years, 1 guaranteed, $5 million)

Jazz sign and trade Hayward

No other assets are exchanged.

aww cool to hear from LarBrd33.  I miss his contributions, hopefully at some point he might come back and join us.

Could we sign and trade Kelly to the Jazz and keep everyone else?
No. If we keep Rozier + Jackson we won't be under the cap at the end of the trade. In order for the sign and trade to be legal, we have to be under the cap at the end of the trade.

Unless there's a rule I'm not aware of, I don't think that's strictly true.

If we're using cap space for the trade, we have to finish the trade no more than $100k above the cap.

However, if we were to "match" salaries - meaning Utah would pay KO almost $25 million in his first year - we're allowed to finish over the cap.
Yes, you are right. Practically speaking, we have to finish the trade no more than $100k above the cap.

if the Celtics sign and traded Crowder and Jackson to the Jazz after releasing Mickey and stashing Yabuselle then they could sign a free agent prior to the Jazz sign and trade transaction to the tune of about $6,254,691 in the first year. If we traded Crowder to other team for no salary we could sign a free agent for $5,338,691 in the first year and then sign Hayward as a free agent, i think the celtics are looking to make another minor free agent signing, and naturally exploring the possiblitly of maximising to possible cap room by involving Utah.

btw in both sceranio the Celtics would retain the room exception.

It would make sense to me that the for Celtics to replace Crowder on the current roster perhaps with a free agent like Ilyasova or Beasley, who we may be able to sign to a similar contract, and be a better fit next to Hayward

If we trade Crowder as part of this sign and trade I have a couple questions if anyone knows.

1) Will we then be able to re-sign KO with his bird rights going over the cap?  It looks like we only rescinded the qualifying offer, but didn't renounce him.  It could be a major development not so much for his play although we desperately need quality bigs, but maybe more important we could use a sizable contract to match up in a future trade for a star.  If we lose Crowder and KO I think we can forget about trading for another star anytime soon.

2) would we also be able to keep Rozier?

1) I don't believe so. We need to remove KO's cap hold from our books if Jae and roster fodder are the only guys leaving;

2) Yes, if Jae was moved for space, we could keep Rozier.

Jae Crowder worst nightmare comes true...

Quote
League sources told The Tribune that Hayward and his agent, Mark Bartelstein, have agreed to help facilitate a sign-and-trade. Utah would sign Hayward to a new max deal, then send him to Boston in exchange for Crowder, who has just short of three years and $22 million remaining on his contract. – via Salt Lake Tribune

I'm not seeing this anywhere. I think this is speculation more than anything else. Lowe and other Jazz sources are still saying Utah will have to cough up another asset to make this work.

Kelly is base year, only 50% counts for salary matching

Quote
93. What is "Base Year Compensation?" How does it affect trades?

(...) The rules formerly known as BYC now apply under just one circumstance -- during sign-and-trade transactions (see question number 92). If a team re-signs its Larry Bird or Early Bird free agent in order to trade the player in a sign-and-trade transaction, the player's new salary is greater than the minimum, he receives a raise greater than 20%, and the team is at or above the cap immediately after the signing*, then the player's outgoing salary for trade purposes is either his previous salary or 50% of his new salary, whichever is greater. The team receiving the player always uses his new salary.

*The team salary being over the cap immediately following the signing is what triggers this rule. It does not matter whether the team was under the cap prior to the signing, nor whether the team is under the cap subsequent to the trade.
http://www.cbafaq.com/salarycap.htm#Q93

If we sign Kelly for 20 million (starting salary) we will still be under the cap following the signing of the contract. Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't this mean that we can trade him using his new salary (in this case 20 million)?

Would there be room for Yabusele on the roster?

What happened to ol Lar "Negative Nancy" Brd? Lol kidding but he was pretty funny would get everybody riled up.

He's still following the team closely and seems thrilled with Tatum and Hayward.

The funny thing is, despite his reputation, I think he's a huge optimist, and he's a good guy:
I'm sure he is a good guy.  I don't miss him.

Maybe.

Should definitely be enough for Donatas Motiejunas, who I think is going to fit very well with us.
