I just will as shocked as not taking Fultz , if they pass on Tatum ......not because Im so high on him ........just because he always seemed to have Brad Stevens " type Big " written across his chest .
Jayson Tatum clocked in at 205 lbs last year. I think it's pretty safe to say he'll never really be a big except in some situational 2 minutes a night.

I dont understand the reasoning for this assumption.

Dwight Howard and Anthony Davis were twigs when they came in to the league.   Look at them a year or two later.

I can understand this argument in the case of Josh Jackson since he has a frail and narrow frame that doesn't seem like it could support much weight...but Tatum has  a solid frame and he is pretty lean. I could see him building it to 225 - 230 in a couple of years without tooc much trouble, and having a Jimmy Butler type physique.
Dwight Howard was 240 lbs when he came out. Anthony Davis was 225 lbs. Less than their current listed weights but hardly twigs.

Even if Tatums goes up to 225 lbs, that's still SF size. It's 10 lbs less than Paul Pierce's playing weight.

Anthony Davis was 225 at 6'10"/6'11".  Tatum is 205 at 6'8". Not really a big difference there.

Paul George had the exact height / weight / wingspan as Tatum on draft day, and he's now proven he can play the PF spot quite effectively.

Josh Smith was only 6'9" / 210 lbs when he came in to the NBA,  and if anything he was very effective when he played the PF spot - and that was before the a small ball obsession really took hold.

Thadeus Young was 6'8" / 210 and mostly plays PF.

And yes, I know George and Smith were more athletic - but athleticism isn't that important at the PF spot compared to other positions.

Tatum will  be fine.

Jackson motor on the defensive end is elite.  Even though he is on the slim side and needs to add weight,  he battles against bigger/stronger pfs and holds his ground.    Very good boxing out technique and will lean all of his weight on opponents , then explode up for rebounds
Jacksons weight is a little concerning for me. He's pretty thin and he's old for a freshman.

Although he is still just 20 and he plays stronger than his frame suggests.

Jackson really is a stud prospect with 1 gigantic red flag being the shooting. If he can pull his jumper together he could easily be the best prospect in this draft.

The same was said about Brown, but with hard work and discipline, he seems to have corrected the issue. And it's not like Jackson sucks at shooting; I know people don't buy into his 38% 3pt%, but it happened, and over a full season at almost 3 attempts per game. The free throw thing is peculiar, but I have to imagine that can be fixed.

And I agree that Jackson is a total stud on defense - always engaged/energized, plays much tougher than he looks, and always boxes out. People lauding Tatum's ability to bulk up while discounting Jackson's KG-like frame/strength just haven't watched enough of the two.

Reportedly, Jordan Schultz says the Celtics think Tatum will be the next Paul Pierce, which is why they traded down:

Deandre Ayton is compared to KG.

it would be so funny if the Brooklyn trade gave us the modern versions of Pierce and KG

Draft or trade, I just hope we get a player that can score.    None of that, needs to learn or fix a broken shot, he's a hard worker, winning plays bricklayer.

Agreed, rebounder would be great but doesn't appear to be any.

Sigh guys, still can't believe we aren't getting fultz..

But I do hope

The other 2 players to go after him will be big time players

P.S. I think if Ainge gets the two top picks next year, he will trade them for AD

  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
I'd prefer Tatum, but I don't think we are getting either.

I think we'll trade for Paul George or Butler and sign one of Hayward or Griffin.

#3 pick+Bradley+Rozier+Memphis pick+18' Boston pick.
