I hate this, Danny don't overthink it. In my opinion, if you trade the first pick, you have to get a player back.

Why Ainge wants to trade the pick:

Doesn't think Fultz is a winner
Thinks Jackson or Tatum are 1A prospects, he must expect Lonzo to Lakers at 2
has an eye on someone in the 2018 draft
He knows Philly will take Fultz at 1
Frees up cap space for the Hayward FA run

or

Has a deal in place for Butler centered around the number 3 pick

If "the only goal in Boston is championships" as we here with this management team saying all the time, how can you not get a star back in return for the number one pick?

Sweet. More picks Boston won't ever trade or use. Pretty soon we can have a starting line up of first round picks. Not actual players...Just future picks

So you dump the number one pick for more protected picks. Is the 2018 Lakers pick protected?

The only way this makes sense is if we know were getting Hayward and possibly Butler?

That's the only logical reason I can find because this is stupid

Danny needs to get that 2021 76ers 1st as well

2021 pick? The 76ers will be a playoff team then, useless.

It includes "complicated protections"

This should be real interesting. Maybe Danny has his eye on a future prospect and pushed for a specific type of uncommon protection. Or could be philly too

Number 3
And the Lakers pick next year
Future protected picks?

Just a really stupid deal esp if they end up with Josh Jackson

Tangentially related, is there any possibility Ainge trades Thomas or Horford?

Danny needs to hung up the phone on them. If they really want Fultz they 'll call us back with a better offer. If not we 'll keep the pick.
