I agree with a few points the OP made, but "we already have championship caliber guards." Not quite, we have tiny guards, one is always injured, and can't develop his own reliable offensive game, and one specifically who is a major defensive liability, literally a target to take advantage of, and easily controlled in a playoff atmosphere. Re-watch the first two games of the Bulls series. Before Rondo got hurt.

I'll take the "bird in hand" every time. That bird is Fultz. Trading the number one pick for more future picks is crazy. We already have young picks stashed all over the world.

The Celtics as a team are NOT a "tick" away from being in the finals, we're far from being a team to contend with the Spurs, Cavs or Warriors. We need a step-up in positional size, and talent at a few positions.

right. go with the known before the unknown. we KNOW we can grab fultz to go with JB. add hayward. keep and draft brooklyn pick next year as well. we waited long enough to make these picks after DA blew it up after 2013. let's use them. we may never get a #1 pick again. use it. we know who will be available next year also now. we have no clue who will be around past next year. it's nuts.

The only way this makes sense is if we know were getting Hayward and possibly Butler?

That's the only logical reason I can find because this is stupid

Well DA can't know if he's getting Hayward since FA hasn't started, but he does need to make sure he has CAP space for it to happen. This gets them to were they need for Hayward by going from 1 to 3, and letting go of a few players.

Sometimes you have to roll the dice. But I'm sure people would be made if he just played it safe too.

how do we know DA doesn't already have a backdoor deal already done with hayward as long as we have room?

They think a deal should be 1 for 3, Okafor, and Covington. Yuck.

That trade is genius IF Ainge turns that third pick in a trade for Butler and still has those top two picks in the 2018 draft ...

To be honest, the fact that the Sixers fans are hating this deal makes it interesting for me.

I still don't want us to pass on Fultz, but if Sixers fans think they are giving too much, I'm starting to slowly liking it.

2019 CStrong Historical Draft 2000s OKC Thunder.
PG: Jrue Holiday / Isaiah Thomas / Larry Hughes
SG: Paul George / Aaron McKie / Bradley Beal
SF: Paul Pierce / Tayshaun Prince / Brian Scalabrine
PF: LaMarcus Aldridge / Shareef Abdur-Raheem / Ben Simmons
C: Jermaine O'neal / Ben Wallace

exactly. If he has a deal in place for butler and we walk away with a warchest of picks were good

Then we get Hayward

Some posters say they would do #1 for #3 + LA 2018 + Sac 2019 however the majority believes it would be an overpay.

2018 with protection? This deal sounds even worse than I feared.

I suspect I'm about to jump on the "fire Ainge" bandwagon.

Philly will have the best trio in the league of young players, plus they'll still have the '19 Sac pick. As a franchise, they're in a far better position that we are.

Woj: Discussions have centered on Sixers sending 2017 No. 3, 2018 Lakers pick, and possibly 2021 1st — including complicated protections

Complicated protections?
Forget that

Do we have any news on what the protections are? There is no way Ainge accepts that deal if the 18 LA pick has protections. Has to be other parts to this deal.

So which pick has the complicated protections? The Lakers 2018 or the Sixers 2021, or both?
