I'd absolutely give up Crowder for the 12 pick in the draft.  Detroit doesn't do it though. Ever.

I don't love it. We're likely going to lose AB in free agency or via trade. Smart is more important than the #12 pick is likely to be.

But are we realistically going to resign/extend him in 2018, especially with Fultz (PG that can play SG) and Jaylen (SH that can play SF)?

I think resigning him is realistic at this point, yes.

Yeah. Unless Smart has a huge breakout season next year, he's not going to command big money. We would likely be able to sign him to a similar contract to what Bradley is on right now.

After he's already proven himself useful in three NBA playoff rounds his value has gone down? Nah. His value has gone up. He'd be drafted ahead of Ingram in a redraft of last year and he'd be in the mix again this year for #1 if he were eligible. Top 5 pick for him, easily.

I like Smart a lot, but his game this year has been inconsistent and hasn't shown the progression we'd hoped for. Therefore I would take the 12th pick in a trade. I would like to expand the deal and add Crowder and hope to snatch Stanley Johnson away from them if they are really keen on making a quick leap forward. Marjanovic would probably have to be included for salary purposes. I have no interest in picking up Jackson and Leuer and Baynes are probably more valuable to them. Maybe sweeten the deal with the rights to Yabusele, Clippers pick or 2nd rounders.

By the way, I would pick Anunoby if he's still on the board with that pick, otherwise Leaf.

Let's not also forget that potential draft picks are ALWAYS overvalued near the draft, which affects how people see this comparison right now.

Outside of Fultz, there's literally no other player in this draft I'd rather have than Brown. Granted I'm also not high on the rest of this draft, specifically Ball and Jackson, but I'd take Brown second behind only Simmons last year, too. He's firmly surpassed Ingram as a prospect in my mind due primarily to the tremendous amount of growth that he showed from the start of the season to the end of the season.

I think Brown is a multiple-time two-way All-Star, and I think Fultz becomes a perennial All-Star.

that will never happen.  Smart will get at least the MLE which this summer is something like 8.4 million to start (and thus gets bigger every year).  I actually think Smart will get a contract larger than the MLE, I think he starts around 10 million but wouldn't be surprised at all to see him average out to 15 million or so.  I'd rather pay Bradley than Smart, unless Boston goes into rebuilding in which case Smart makes more sense due to his age.
