Now, let me preface this by saying my knowledge of the cap rules/ins and outs of the financial aspect is very minimal. This was an idea for this current offseason I had the other day and I was wondering if it would work financially, so any input from the resident cap experts is more than welcome.

Trade Crowder, Rozier, Zeller and the BK '17 for Butler and Portis.

Sign Gordon Hayward to the max, and let KO/Jerebko/Amir/Green/Young walk.

IT/Smart
Butler/Bradley
Hayward/Brown/Nader
Portis/Yabusele/Mickey
Horford/Zizic

Now I'm not sure if this is possible, but if we could do this I think we'd be a legit contender. Imagine that starting lineup with guys like AB/Smart/an improved Jaylen coming off the bench?!? We'd add two legit stars while addressing our hole at PF (if portis doesn't work out, chances are one of Yabu/Zizic step up). Banner 18 baby!

We would need to not exercise the option on Zeller in order to sign Hayward.
2019 historical draft.  Pick 12

Tim Duncan, Oscar Robertson, Elgin Baylor, Scottie Pippen, Willis Reed, Mitch Richmond, Sam Jones, Dan Majerle, Bob Cousy, Rasheed Wallace, Shawn Kemp, Marcus Camby

Considering we would have to renounce all of our free agents, which includes KO, Zeller, Johnson, and then convince Yabusele to stay another year.

To add Hayward and Butler would be very tough... We would be short around 1.4 million if I'm correct if we make all the necessary adjustments, and even then we would still be short of giving Hayward a max, which is 30.6.

I would say honestly... PG13 and Butler would be more easier to pull off, although undoubtedly close to impossible regardless... But! How sure are people of Hayward really leaving the Jazz? I just don't think it'll happen.

My guess?

Ainge trades for either PG13 or Butler, resign some of our players to team friendly contracts, and then trade them away for a disgruntled Hayward lol.

In this scenario it makes more sense to take Fultz and Yab than Butler and then just look at Smart and be like "Work on your shot this summer wuss." and see what happens.

Butler, Hayward, Bradley and Brown for two spots. They need more minutes, three of them are 35 mpg players and Brown will need aroung 20 mpg in his sophomore season.

Not realistic, in my opinion. Although the idea of getting Portis adds some interest.

I don't believe that exact team / trade is possible.  It would be possible to sign Hayward and then make a trade for Butler (in that order), but Zeller would need to be waived to create cap space, etc.

I doubt that Boston will continue to keep 3 undersized guards to play with Butler.
Expect that either Avery Bradley or Marcus Smart will be dealt.  More than likely,
Ainge will see what spot we are drafting in, field calls, while listening closely to what players are up for trades.

He will then open the back doors to communicate with some of the players who are impending free agents before making a move.

Butler would be a  coup-but not at the cost the Bulls were offering him.

If you want to add Butler and Hayward to the team then you must trade out an equal amount of 2017-18 salary in a Butler trade as you receive.

Your proposition won't work because in order to sign Hayward this summer, Zeller is already gone.

A trade would need to look something like this:

Butler for Bradley, Crowder, Smart at a minimum. Then you can sign Hayward to the max. Basically the only way you can do it is if you trade away 3 core pieces from this years team

That's not quite true. Salaries need to "match", but not exactly. Bradley + BRK #1 probably works, so long as the pick is signed 30 days before the trade.

Keeping the pick eats up 5-8M in cap space so we wouldn't have enough to give Hayward a MAX offer.

Counter: Is there a way to fit George and Hayward here?

I think it's A LOT HARDER, but George says he would love to play with Hayward too.

I think if we renounce everybody, we would just need to move Rozier and keep Yabu overseas. It depends on where the pick falls.

Or, we can keep KO's cap hold and trade AB for picks.

We can't keep everyone, but there are plenty of options.

Pretty sure Danny can make a draft day deal--and just delay the deal a month or so. Like Minny/Clev did with Wiggins....Renounce a couple guys-Sign Hayward, then make the trade official. It's okay to go over the cap then. No-?

If a team is under the cap, a trade can't be made if it would take the team more than 100K over the cap.  You'd have to salary match so it didn't.
