Hayward REALLY struggled last night.

12 points and 4 rebounds, 4 assists on 4/15 shooting

A little surprising, but given that the ancient Joe Johnson is probably the second most potent offensive force on that team, I'm sure the Warriors  focused on Hayward and really held him in check. (I didn't watch the game.)

That wouldn't be the case here. He will be the second scoring option if he came here right now.

IT alleviates a ton of pressure from teammates.

That should be very attractive to Hayward.

Not suprised, he's in over his head going against the Warriors. Green/Iggy/Durant are all good to elite defenders & he'll draw a lot of attention as the best scorer on the team.

Rather keep Crowder at this rate
Plus brown also gets more min next season
No room for Gordon

If it comes down to giving up multiple assets for Butler or just signing Hayward, the latter is clearly the right choice. We could then package those assets for a big.

We need to wait and see what pick we get and how far we go before we play GM.

I watched a little of the game (Hayward in particular) and didn't see anything outstanding at all.  After see his stats he had a less than impressive game.  No Max here I would say.

Same here. The lack of production was less disturbing than how content he seemed to be sitting in the corner for entire possessions and deferring to the likes of Rodney Hood -- who, with all due respect, is not exactly a world beater.

We (as a fanbase) haven't learnt anything of exposing oneself because of overreaction after a single game (see the thread: Rozier over Portis was a trash decision).

If Hayward is a max guy or not won't depend on a single match, even a series.

I watched some. For the large majority of the first half, Hayward seemed to trot directly into a corner and stand there for the entire possession with his hands on his waist. It happened more than once or twice.

For a guy that's billed as a max player because he's the leader and top scorer on a playoff team, this was boggling, inexplicable, and largely inexcusable.

Exactly lol

This thread is kind of a joke with all the overreactions. He's an all-star cailiber player, one game or series doesn't change the fact that he's a max contract player.

If we sigh him i'll be happy to have him, if we don't then I won't lose any sleep over it. I'm mostly looking forward to Jaylen getting more minutes & developing a lot next season. Along with our 2017 pick.

Hayward is one of the best at his position right now. Warriors took him completely away, give them credit, but there is no one else on that team to help him offensively other than some decent spot up shooters. He is a major upgrade over Jae Crowder.

Pretty much sums it up. The guy's an All-Star caliber guy. He's improved every single year he's been in the league, and his team has followed his lead. Give GSW credit for having a gameplan against him and executing it.

I just don't know if he leaves Utah at this point. From all accounts, his family is pretty settled there, the team is getting better, and they can offer him the most money. The best bet that we have to offer him is playing for his college coach and maybe, possibly the road to the Finals are easier in the east.

  • GOT IT!!!
Gordon Hayward in green would look like a much different player than Gordon Hayward in purple. Stevens would maximize his potential like no other. He's already done it once.

TP, koz. Thanks.

Always good to get input from someone with actual eyes on the game.

That sounds really out of character for Hayward who usually is a pretty dynamic, always moving without the ball type player, AND, he often has the ball in his hands. Weird.

Maybe he's sick or hurt.....hopefully this isn't him pouting or prima donna-ing around. One thread on the Jazz RealGM board asked why Hayward was deferring to Johnson so much in the Clippers series.

Maybe he's a better second banana than a first.
