I know people are mad about the bogus call, I know I still am.

However, Jimmy taking the task of guarding Isaiah during crunch time really impressed me. His scoring last night was a little iso heavy for my liking but I blame that on the Bulls coaching staff being unable to put a quality system in place.

Butler did a great job guarding IT down the stretch and showed some of the issues we might face in the playoffs when teams put their best wing defender on IT (or just trap him). With Jimmy on the team other teams couldn't double, or put their best wing defender on IT.

That being said, I think it all depends on price. I don't think I would give the '17 nets pick for him, but I would give up Bradley, Crowder and the 18 pick. If that package gets it done, it might make more sense for Chicago to do that deal in the offseason rather than right now.

At some point, the Celtics have to make a trade. If your core is IT4, Horford, and you want to win now, you have to trade the pick. Maybe its right before the draft, but you MUST trade the pick.

You cannot simultaneously continue to stock pile assets, draft 18 year olds, and compete for a Title. Either you trade the pick this summer, or next year you trade Horford or IT4 and go in wait for LeBron and the Warriors to get too old to compete.

The salaries that will be required when IT4, AB, and Smart come up for new contracts will not allow the C's to re-sign all those guys. Its also not fair to Horford and IT4 to continue surrounding them with rookies. They deserve to win.

So, either trade the pick or trade away your best players next year. The time is coming. The clock is running out on the current path for Ainge. At some point in the not so distant future he will have to decide.

The thing about Butler is that he's *relatively* cheap. You'll get him for another two years at about $19m per year, in his age 28 and age 29 seasons. Crazy to say it, but for a player of his caliber that's cheap and would allow more flexibility to do some other things (like re-sign Olynyk, for instance).

But after watching him last night I started re-thinking Butler on the Celtics. He doesn't strike me as a leader, and he's also not the dominant force with the ball in his hands as some other top guys in the league. And though he gave a good effort against IT last night, at this point in his career I'm just not sure he has the energy and interest in being a lockdown defender like he was earlier in his career.

So no, I wouldn't trade either of the remaining Nets picks for him. The C's have a chance to be like the Spurs were the past 15 years. That is, be a top team in the league with multiple different top players rotating on and off the team, all the while building team chemistry and culture over the years. Be careful not to derail that, especially for a guy who's a 1a superstar and not a true #1.

Who would you rather give up brk 17 for butler or Drummond?

Neither. Absolutely positively neither. Because the NBA is dominated by superstars. I'd rather have a really good crack at one than lazy out of that for a run of the mill all star.

Talk about an oxymoron.

I don't think Butler is that big of a deal for us honestly. Sure I'd take him for the right price but they beat us last night because of all those second chance points!! My god it was ridiculous how bad it was. We could go out int he first round unless we address that

I also think having Butler playing with IT can reduce that problem.

How many teams have two long defenders that can keep up with both IT and Butler?

Would still not pay the farm for him.   A nets pick, another future pick, AB or Crowder plus Rozier.

That's the trade I would make for Butler too. Either Nets pick, the Memphis pick, some 2nd round picks, Bradley, Rozier, salary filler. Maybe Yabusele too.

I don't trust Butler's shot enough to give up a Nets pick and Bradley.

Give me Bradley AND Fultz/Jackson/Ball over the next 7 years than JB.

Paul George I'll maybe do it for though.

Butler and RLopez to Boston

Bradley, Crawford, Amir, Bk2018,other non Brklyn 1st rd pick  to Chicago

Think it is fair value, and we've shown we can play at high level w/o AB.  Butler takes Crawford place. Keeps our 2017 Brk pick.  Don't think people realize what Butler does for IT's game, and vice versa!  Can't double team them both!

Chicago adds two still young excellent players, swaps Amir for RoLo, and keeps DWade happy that his team isn't going completely in the tank!  Gives them probable 1-3 pick in 2018!

TP.

My position exactly.

When they signed Horford, they admitted they were finished with the forever rebuild - much to the horror of this crowd.

So now, it's time to move some of these picks for immediate, significant help - or admit you made a mistake signing Horford and tank.

We will go out early if Ainge doesn't get a rebounder at the deadline.

I agree that Butler doesn't solve that problem - but he solves a lot of others, unless they're intent on kicking the can down the road another four years and relying on the draft-obsessed to maintain interest in the ball club.

Bo, you seem to be very confused on things and think teams should either tank or contend for a title. So based on that illogical assumption there should be 28 teams tanking and only 2 playing to win. That's neither realistic or practical. The truth of the matter is that we aren't "rebuilding" (I think you need to look up that word since you often cite it incorrectly), but rather consistently improving towards title contention. Which is why our win percentage has steadily increased over the past 4 seasons:
13/14 .305
14/15 .488
15/16 .585
16/17 .649

Except those aren't actually the only two options.  It's entirely possible to keep the current core around while developing the high draft picks we have from the Nets.  Or keep the current core together, develop the high draft picks, and wait until a better deal is available (or injuries make a championship run possible) and make your move then.  Or to sign someone this offseason and then make a deal to put us over the top.

The whole "we have to either go all in now or tank!" argument doesn't actually make any sense.  It's not just black and white, there's more than 2 ways to skin a cat, etc. etc.
I'm bitter.

I was just looking at that. I think it was supposed to be Crowder.
