I hate quotes like this.   Doesn't tell what the other pieces being offered was.

Ugggh. I'm sitting in the doctor's office with a throat [dang] near swollen shut from streptococcus, and I about screamed when I saw this.

You really couldn't easily beat this offer without giving up any of our core assets, Danny?
Surprised we weren't in at that price.  Would be happy to give up some youngsters and one of our rando first rounders for a year's rental of Ibaka.

Perhaps it means we're still chasing bigger fish.

Agreed.

Ibaka may have been a useful 1 year player, but I'm not 100% sure he's worth giving up assets if the Celtics are convinced that they can maybe snag someone else instead.

I'm okay with steadying the course, and seeing how our team does.

I still think if the Celtics are engaged, locked in, and healthy that even with Ibaka added to the Raptors, that we're a better team. In terms of depth, and chemistry with one of the youngest and brightest coaches steering us.

IMO our team right now is configured for the regular season and their team is configured for the playoffs.

Precisely.

There are other rebounders out there, for certain.

But if we don't get some help, we're not going to last long in the playoffs.
Coined the CelticsBlog term, "Euromistake."

Does this mean also danny will try at all cost avoid drafting another guard for the 2017 draft?

Josh Jackson time?..
No I could see Rozier in a package for some one better than Ibaka. Team could still add Ball or Fultz np. Also DJ is a guard on the team they may trade him and then carry the same amount of guards.

And I don't see Ainge as a GM that makes that type of decision based on the upcoming draft.

Again, we don't know what the rest of the offer was.

The C's need to stay the course. Toronto gave up a rotation player and a first rounder for a rental.

Haven't really heard about what the C's were willing to give up.

Millsap maybe becomes a possibility now.

Looks like the Celtics are going to get bounced in the East Semis of the playoffs this year! Toronto is going to be a dangerous team. They might even make it to the finals with that lineup.

To match Ibaka's salary, it would have had to have been Rozier/Amir or Rozier/Zeller/Young, either of which I'd have been fine with including some 2nd rounders to sweeten the deal.

If Rozier was really the stumbling block, I think Ainge deserves some heat.  But if it was really about him refusing to throw in a first rounder, that was the right call.  We shouldn't give those up for a 1/3 of the season rental of a player we would hope NOT to resign in the off season because we want to get someone better.

If they're healthy, that's a tough team to beat.

Can Ibaka guard PFs?

Toronto now clearly ahead of Boston and the #2 team in the East.

Well, they are confident in resigning him, apparently...

I disagree. I think Rozier is a valuable piece and only worth giving up in a trade if Ainge was getting back a long term piece. If Ibaka is just a rental, Rozier is too high a price to pay. If Ainge was willing to pay Ibaka and keep him long term, Rozier is a fine price pay to pay.

I really like Rozier. I expect him to be a quality starting PG in this league down the road. He is a valuable young player. I think Ainge is correct to keep him off the table for anything less than a long term piece.

I don't think the C's have any interest in handing out a long term deal to someone like Ibaka. Nice player but it's not what the C's really need.

It was for rozier and a 1st

Celts have plenty of picks and they wanted rozier

Maybe add young as an extra

C: Jonas Valanciunas
PF: Serge Ibaka
SF: Demarre Carroll
SG: DeMar Derozan
PG: Kyle Lowry

If they're healthy, that's a tough team to beat.

The Raptors have some really nice lineups with Ibaka at center too when Valanciunas goes to the bench.

(1) Go big with Sully.
(2) Go with big man shooting with Patterson.
(3) Go small with Carroll at PF, DeRozan at SF, Norman Powell at SG.

Ibaka gives Toronto some serious lineup versatility. Something they have lacked in recent years. This will be a big advantage for them matchup wise in the playoffs.
