"A source suggested he did not look overly impressive during the workout. While that should be expected given he has not played in the NBA for years, it also won't hasten Boston's desire to clear space for him."

This could also be DA giving out BS to the press to keep other teams from sniffing. Sanders is a proven playing, and I don't expect the C's not to get that he's going to be rusty and just needs reps.

DA also doesn't want to get hosed if he wants to trade Young or Mickey, or do 3 for 1 to make room for Sanders. So if teams know they want to make room, they wont give best value.

I mean could he be so bad Young and Mickey would be better options staying on the team? If so, wow.

The guy has been out of the league for years ... he is not a hot commodity ... The Celtics worked him out and would have given him a contract that day... They passed ... They did the right thing and sniffed around but in the end they will have to make a trade to overcome these rebound woes....

You know this isn't true, right? They can't give him a contract right now. There are rules.
It takes me 3hrs to get to Miami and 1hr to get to Orlando... but I *SPIT* on their NBA teams! "Bless God and bless the (Celts)"-Lady GaGa (she said gays but she really meant Celts)

Ok, so many of you need to help me out. I don't understand why a person who's labeled a "locker room cancer" is the unpardonable sin , but on the flip side you have ex drug users and people with legitimate anxiety and mood disorders and people are like... "oh yeah, give him a chance." "It's worth taking a gamble" ,"i'd love to see him in green" etc.
Just a bit confusing. Years past when there was rumors of AI may be considering the C's back in 09 , Celtics forums exploded with negativity. Likewise at the beginning of the season when I suggested in a thread we should pick up Lance Stephenson to address our woes at the 3, Once again he's a "Locker room Cancer" Absolutely not!!! But you same guys have no reservations about Larry Sanders? I wish him the best in life personally but Why are people so forgiving for ex drug abusers but if a player has an issue with a former coach it's an unpardonable sin.

Well it's all about the contract.
Sanders on vet minimum with a team option next season is the way to go.
We are not talking about a risky player with multi year contract that can do damage to your team.

Nice bit of work there, Mr. Holmes. Take my TP.

Hopefully we get him. It wouldn't be a bad idea to add someone who's a very good rim protector and rebounder (assuming he returns to form of course). It's time to move/waive some players to make room for him, and offer a contract already, before the Golden State Warriors or Cleveland Cavaliers do (Cavs really need a guy like him too).

At least Danny is showing he's trying to deal with the Celtics weak front court. I was beginning to loose hope.

I don't know what they expected from Sanders, with not playing ball for years. It will take time and desire on the part of Sanders, to get the competitive spirit juices moving, hopefully he has that type of desire, and love for the game.

When at this peek, he was very much the type of big we could use, 6-11 long, defensive minded, athletic, all at a bargain basement cost.

Fingers crossed on this move. What's to loose?

Need Salty here as usual, but there aren't too many competitors in this race. Which teams can offer more than the room/mid level/ vet min?

We have all seen the struggles this year we need to take a flier on a guy like this

I love Amir as much as the next guy but I don't know if it's an injury or what but he looks slow and old

8 teams have enough cap room to exceed offering him the mid-level exception.  An additional 11 teams (including the Celtics) have the room exception.  One team has the bi-annual exception.  In other words, 2/3 of the league can offer him more than the minimum, and almost that many can offer as much or more than the Celtics.  There are potentially a lot of competitors if he were deemed worth pursuing.

If he can play I want him. I just doubt he can play.

Complete faith in Danny and Brad here to look at his workout and make that decision.

Sanders has more than proven his ability to play in the NBA and he's physically healthy. He's an extremely low risk, high reward option. There is nothing to not like about this.

Physically healthy and in good enough shape to warrant an NBA contract are two things completely. Logic dictates that a player who takes 2 years off from basketball and smokes dope on the regular is more than likely noy going to be in any type of condition to play NBA ball. Now the Cs have said his workout wasn't impressive. He just isn't going to be ready to contribute this year. Now next year after going through the SL and preseason....thats different. He probably plays himself into shape then.

What do you want?
He worked out and the team didnt think he was good enough...Honestly he must of looked terrible for a team in such need to pass, even a 10 day deal.... Just because the Celtics need a big doesnt mean they should just go sign any has been...

I think there can be a very large difference here, a guy that is a locker room cancer might be the type of guy someone has to always baby sit, feel like you gotta walk on egg shells around him, guy that might actively sabotage the team if things don't go the way he wants.

I don't claim to know much about Larry Sanders personality but it's possible that at his very young age he wasn't completely ready to deal with the day to day grind of traveling dealing with the media, dealing with fans I would imagine it can be very taxing, but that doesn't mean that it affects the way his teammates think about him.

Also a side point while not technically incorrect I think the way you are calling him a "drug abuser" is over the top, we aren't talking a guy out there tweaking.
