Can't see where Sanders could get in playing shape, which I think would take longer than most fans here realize, pick up the team defensive schemes and be an asset this year. But, if the C's sign a max free agent in the offseason, they most likely would have to sign a couple of vets at the minimum and Sanders would be a great gamble.
Yes, it looks more like a fun news than the actual solution to our defensive problems. But even if it has 2% shot at that, we should go for it.

  • Peace it's a board. We all will never agree.
A workout was worth it for him. We lose no asset for signing him if we do. If Golden State gets him party over if he has something.

Which defensive schemes?

:D
Haha.  For the bigs it's stand still, turn head and watch guy go by.

So what is more likely...

a) we are moving guys to bring Larry in as a project
b) we are bringing Larry in because we are about to move some guys in another deal?

Sanders replaces both Zeller and Amir's skillsets. Both guys make a combined $20 million.
Larry would be likely signed to the vet's minimum or something very small.

To dump one of these guys means we are clearing room for something right? Maybe Saltlover and confirm or add his theory/expertise.

C) The Celtics are just kicking the tires in case they either wind up with an open roster spot and the need for a big after the trade deadline, or determine that he is the best big left on the market after buyout season.   Nothing is remotely imminent.  It was information gathering to see if they like him more than anyone in the D-league.

"A source suggested he did not look overly impressive during the workout. While that should be expected given he has not played in the NBA for years, it also won't hasten Boston's desire to clear space for him."

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
That's too bad - when I use the phrase 'I wasn't overly impressed', it generally means that I wasn't really impressed at all.

Still, maybe there were signs that he could be a very good bball player. We can all hope.

If you want to be optimistic, you can interpret it as he was pretty impressive, but not impressive enough to cut someone tomorrow in order to sign him, and that they're downplaying their interest so other teams don't bring him in before they've cleared a roster spot.

This could also be DA giving out BS to the press to keep other teams from sniffing. Sanders is a proven playing, and I don't expect the C's not to get that he's going to be rusty and just needs reps.

DA also doesn't want to get hosed if he wants to trade Young or Mickey, or do 3 for 1 to make room for Sanders. So if teams know they want to make room, they wont give best value.

I mean could he be so bad Young and Mickey would be better options staying on the team? If so, wow.

Ok, so many of you need to help me out. I don't understand why a person who's labeled a "locker room cancer" is the unpardonable sin , but on the flip side you have ex drug users and people with legitimate anxiety and mood disorders and people are like... "oh yeah, give him a chance." "It's worth taking a gamble" ,"i'd love to see him in green" etc.
Just a bit confusing. Years past when there was rumors of AI may be considering the C's back in 09 , Celtics forums exploded with negativity. Likewise at the beginning of the season when I suggested in a thread we should pick up Lance Stephenson to address our woes at the 3, Once again he's a "Locker room Cancer" Absolutely not!!! But you same guys have no reservations about Larry Sanders? I wish him the best in life personally but Why are people so forgiving for ex drug abusers but if a player has an issue with a former coach it's an unpardonable sin.

The guy has been out of the league for years ... he is not a hot commodity ... The Celtics worked him out and would have given him a contract that day... They passed ... They did the right thing and sniffed around but in the end they will have to make a trade to overcome these rebound woes....

Then we might as well try and get Faried in a small deal.

Not necessarily.  Danny wanted to sign Javale a season or two ago, but then the negotiations stalled over the contract.  Not signing him yesterday doesn't really mean anything in this case; Danny might want to go in another direction, or want to wait until he can clear a spot, or they could be negotiating a contract as we speak.   There's nothing to suggest that the only options were signing him immediately or not at all
I'm bitter.
