This is great news. I think Larry will be signing with us very soon. Knowledgeable Celtics fans must be very happy right now. Jay King has always seemed legit. He says the story emerged in the way the original poster put it. The guy at twitter, on the other hand, speaks up some source of his as if it's his scoop. Unless I missed something.

Noel's asking price must still be too high, but Sanders is a good choice to take a flyer on.  Seems like he'd fit personality wise too -- in interviews, he's got Jaylen's thoughtfulness and Smart's hair for a personality.

He sounds good on paper. Is he ready to participate? Has he been sitting on a couch, or is he game ready? I think these questions determine his value.
The only real mistake is the one from which we learn nothing.

Another ESPN article showed that playoff seedings are pretty much 80% set at this point each season, and then it becomes about getting ready for the playoffs as in health.

So Sanders could help us preserve Al and Amir. Every game won't be against power teams. We're playing Jaylen Brown, and Sanders is already a proven NBA player.

I remember John Bagley as a guy who came in one year overweight and from out of the game for a while. He was pretty good and played his way into shape while fulfilling the need for a pg.

Muhammad Ali was a classic example, although he wasn't still in his prime when he returned. And that's a different sport.

Now we have a real chance to win it all if Danny doesn't choke.

Larry Sanders would have close to half a season to get up to speed.

Then we get #18, this year. Or whenever soon or at least start seriously contending with GS and Cleveland.

Larry Sanders had coming of age issues. This had nothing to do with his skills. He needed time off for personal reasons.

This is the biggest news since Horford was signed.

If we are getting Larry Sanders, the rebuild is officially over. Then the next two years of Brooklyn picks will be frosting potential for a dynasty in the making.

This could be the day to remember.

Is Sanders a poor man's Noel? I'd rather give up real assets for a better player, if that's an option.

I'll take Sanders for nothing (a.k.a. dumping a bottom of the roster guy + cash for a conditional second rounder). If there was a deal Danny liked for Noel, we would already have him.

I wouldn't include you among knowledgeable Celtic's fans.  Individuals suffering from verbal diarrhea, yes.

BasketbalReference.com player comparison

Similar players, Noel’s career PER is slightly higher, but usage is too. Both are very strong defensively and weak offensively. Noel stats better than Sanders for shooting, assists, steals. Sanders stats better than Noel for rebounding, blocks, turnovers. Other advance stats are a push.

I’d take Sanders over Noel if he costs nothing but money. Actually think Sanders is the better player based off his best year. Noel is having a very good season this year, but has only played 300+ minutes. If he finishes well, you could always bid on Noel this summer.

Per your post, one can only assume that you and CP2016 don't get along. Not really the correct thing to take away from his particular post above, however. How about we limit the personal attacks?

Well, Jay King's report indicates that the workout wasn't overly impressive, so we should pull the brakes on the notion that the Celtics will add Sanders soon until more info is released.

Ideally we'd sign him a 3 for 1 trade to consolidate things and open up the Spots for Sanders and Zizic.

I wouldn't worry too much about the early reports of his impressiveness. We wouldn't be signing Sanders for who he is today, more who he will be if he get's back in the NBA conditioning program.

Sanders saying the work out went well might be referring as much to the feedback for the team's plan on how they'd acclimate him as it would from anything he did on the court.

  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
So what? I mean it. So what if sanders turns out to be a total dud, a loser, a failure, a waste.

What would the Celtics have lost that in any way harms this team meaningfully?

The team loses the services of James young. OMG! There go the playoffs!!  :o

Or maybe Mickey is gone?  My god! How will the Celtics fill those 3 minutes at the end of blowouts??

The cost of sanders is next to zip. I hope ainge rolls the dice. No real downside and perhaps good upside.

Why folks are so worried here is beyond me.

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.

reclamation project went well for us in the past.
Sanders sounds like a good one. No risk, good reward type.
Worst case scenario, he's fired before the playoffs.
