@rondohondo This is unfair to DA. He makes several good decisions and fans take them for granted, he makes one (arguably) bad decision and he is a bad GM. How often do teams draft a future All Star with a #13 pick?
@pho no more dufus than 15 FOs which bypassed Giannis and 26 (25 if you exclude the Bucks) that bypassed Gobert.
As a sidenote, I still think ppl underestimate how skilled Giannis was before joining the NBA. Granted, he was not as tall and a strong as he is now, but such a tall guy playing as a ballhandler and playmaker was impressive. He was miles ahead of someone like Papagiannis (#13 in the 2016 draft).
IMO what made FOs reluctant was that he came from the obscure second Greek division, played against competition the skill of which was hard to measure and (I suspect) there were doubts about his true age. He also started playing bball quite late which meant there was a tiny sample size of his career so far.
These were all legitimate concerns back then, and the way to remedy this situation is better scouting for NBA teams in Europe and other non N.American countries. My impression is that the C's have taken steps in this direction, the drafting of Yabusele and Zizic hints that this might indeed be the case.
