Scored the last 11, games on ESPN.

Imagine if we had this guy instead of KO? I feel entitled to make this thread since I was the first to hype him on CB when danny scouted him in Greece.... :P

Not so fast rondohondo, you waited until Danny scouted him in Greece? I made this this thread before America even knew how to spell his name!

My ideal scenario would involve Pierce and Garnett retiring at the end of the season, drafting Adetokunbo in 2013, find our way to the 2014 lottery and be in a position to draft someone like a Julius Randle or Dakari Johnson. Fill out the roster with some free agent signings and have a seasoned Adetokunbo join up to throw out a young roster lead by the evil genius himself, Rondo.

Yeah, thanks Danny. I say that to myself every day.

Imagine if we had a competent GM. We'd probably be a strong playoff contender, one player away from a championship-level team, and have a slew of lottery picks and cap room we could use to go get that player.

I mean, whatever the basis or reasonableness of the decision, it's never gonna change. No point in letting spilled milk hurt your enjoyment of something that's supposed to be entertainment.

I didn't "call" Giannis because I find pre-draft analysis pointless and tedious, but I wish we'd picked him too. Just about everybody does. But at some point when you see those highlights you've just gotta shake your head, have a sip of whatever you like to sip on, and enjoy the really good team and amazing sport we get to watch.

Do you think fans of the other 13 teams that passed on him post about this every time Giannis has a great game?

This was a difficult search for me, as I think I spelled the kid's name differently every time I posted.

I'd prefer to gamble on a high risk/high reward guy. If it were two years ago I would've been all over Plumlee, because he's 23 and stands a chance of helping a team out quickly.

But given that our window is firmly shut (in my view), I say swing for the fences. That Adetokunbo kid seems intriguing.

Full disclosure, the year before I was all over Royce White.

I'm guessing the Cleveland fans (Anthony Bennett at #1) have moved on.

They'd have sent Giannis to Minnesota for Love instead of Bennett.  Really it's Minnesota fans who missed out twice -- if Cleveland had picked him, or if they had picked him themselves at #14.

I posted this about 9 months ago....I stand by it today.... in addition, since then there have been 4-5 additional threads on this guy we didn't pick and are never gonna get, so he will never be a Celtic, so why care about him?

Quoting myself:

"I'm similarly skeptical of both Gobert and Giannis. I don't trust these guys who are rated highly solely because of their measurements. "

@rondohondo This is unfair to DA. He makes several good decisions and fans take them for granted, he makes one (arguably) bad decision and he is a bad GM. How often do teams draft a future All Star with a #13 pick?

@pho no more dufus than 15 FOs which bypassed Giannis and 26 (25 if you exclude the Bucks) that bypassed Gobert.

As a sidenote, I still think ppl underestimate how skilled Giannis was before joining the NBA. Granted, he was not as tall and a strong as he is now, but such a tall guy playing as a ballhandler and playmaker was impressive. He was miles ahead of someone like Papagiannis (#13 in the 2016 draft).

IMO what made FOs reluctant was that he came from the obscure second Greek division, played against competition the skill of which was hard to measure and (I  suspect) there were doubts about his true age. He also started playing bball quite late which meant there was a tiny sample size of his career so far.

These were all legitimate concerns back then, and the way to remedy this situation is better scouting for NBA teams in Europe and other non N.American countries. My impression is that the C's have taken steps in this direction, the drafting of Yabusele and Zizic hints that this might indeed be the case.
