Why do people care so much about players who are eminently replaceable?

TP and Totally Agree.

For perspective, in the last 5 years, you can argue these players drafted outside the lottery that fit the Rozier mold (athletic scoring point guard that needs development upon drafted).

Nolan Smith
Reggie Jackson
Corey Joseph
Isaiah Thomas (if you want to include him)
Tony Wroten
Marquese Teague
Denis Schroeder
Jordan Clarkson
Russ Smith
Andrew Harrison
Jerian Grant
Dejounte Murray
Isaiah Whitehead
Demetrius Jackson

Probably 3 available each draft. Rozier is quite easily replaceable.

You are looking at 10 NBA players over 5 years if you give Demetrius and Isaiah Whitehead the benefit of the doubt.

And those 10 players would be tradeable for any draft pick trade if Danny makes the call tomorrow

You arent getting
Jackson, Thomas, Schroeder, or Clarkson for anything outside the top lottery.

Corey Joseph and Murray and Harrison would require overpays.

That leaves you with Whitehead Grant and Jackson.

Jackson is a massive question mark and I sure dont trust Whitehead either. Not to  mention Brooklyn probably isnt gonna jump at the chance to trade one of their few quasi-promising young players under any circumstances.

So Jerian Grant.

Rozier is less replaceable than your making him out to be. That said, the general point that Terry Rozier should not play any real role in long term decision making I completely agree with. He is replaceable but not dime a dozen.

Perhaps this is true that there isnt an ideal trade value for Rozier, but in addition to the guys you mentioned that could be trade for... this type of player will always be available to draft. Not to mention there is currently one on the roster already.

I guess I'm in minority. I prefer Rozier moving forward and see him as the perfect way to have the ballhandler position cost controlled given the decision looming with Thomas/Smart/Bradley.

As I think about longer term, I actually see Thomas as the odd man out. With Smart developing as a ball handler, with this upcoming draft being guard heavy (I prefer Fultz), we could allocate the max contract it will take to sign Thomas to another position.

I hope not

I think you could get Vucevic or Robin Lopez for a package of KO, Rozier and a non BK pick.  Question is, since both have contracts that extend beyond next year, would you want either of them.

I would take either to use as a trade chip for some other player more valuable.  If the new CBA incentivizes good players to remain with their teams, teams are realistically left with only trades and the draft to improve.  Both Vucevic and Lopez have reasonable contracts for big men and I believe they would attract some trade interest.

Danny fielding calls:

"Rozier... Yes his shooting percentages are up across the board from last year.. yes he doubled his A/To ratio while playing more minutes.. but have you heard of this guy James Young?!  He's got intangibles that literally can't be measured... don't even bother looking up his stats! You'll love him!"

Don't worry, Ainge can spin James Young's stats, too

Selling points (and issues) for Young:
He is shooting 3s at a career high percentages! (28.6%, up from 25.8% and 23.1%)
He is shooting 2s at a career high 57.1%! (On 7 attempts.  Not 7 per game, 7 all season)
He has yet to miss a free throw this year! (Or attempt one)
His rebounding, assists, and steals are at career highs per 36 minutes! (Per36 stats are useless when he's only played 64 minutes)
I'm bitter.

Which should hopefully stop people from quoting DRPM on this forum ever again.
