He's basically Sullinger 2.0 with a lot more in game hustle. I certainly wouldn't give up on him, but this isn't what I signed up for with the 6th pick and at some point you just don't offer the kind of contract he's looking for.

Same thing with KO.

They both have good nights and bad and show some talent and after years are still not really as good as they are supposed to be. Weight problems. Just not achieving what we legitimately hoped for.

Its time

If the right offer comes our way

I mean if he was a FA , what is he worth in the open market? 6-8 million a year?

Too slow and unsure on the offensive end. Strong defender and hardworking. Has a place in the league.

Smart going to always have a place in the league. He is enforce/goon/glue guy

true

Smart doesn't have a weight problem - he wears a flak jacket because he throws himself all over the court and switches onto bigs, and it makes him look a lot thicker than he is. Sullinger only looked like he had a flak jacket on under his jersey.

I'm pretty sure that Danny doesn't care about negative nancies that write on sports blogs.

Danny invested a lot in the player, and is capable of observing the player developing. His defense is very strong, and he's slowly showing an ability to hit free throws and open 3's. He needs a lot of work on shooting and hitting runners in the lane. Danny should pay IT to tutor Marcus.

I hope that Marcus will spend a ton of time shooting in the offseason, and will get leaner in anticipation of his pending Free Agency. I expect gradual improvement in both. Like Avery, I wouldn't be shocked if Marcus continues to improve well into his second contract.
The only real mistake is the one from which we learn nothing.

He works on his shot. He will master it. Many on CB dissed AB and man are they wrong. Smart works at his game and he will learn to shoot like Jason Kidd did. I think he will make and All-star team just as I said last year that AB would make one. If Korver can make one Smart can too.

TP......

JKidd averaged 69% FTs his first 3 years. It took him 6 years to break 70% and made a huge jump to 80% that 6th year. Smart's career (2 1/3 years) so far is 71%.

Smart has shown, above all, a tremendous competitive drive and a willingness to put in hard work to improve.  His D has always been physically and instinctually borderline elite and versatile. His shot will come, and when he "gets it", watch out NBA.

For the right price, give up on him.

Well, yes. I don't think including him in a trade for the "right" price would necessarily be giving up on a player. Al Jefferson for KG didn't mean that Danny didn't like Big Al.

Personally, I think Smart can be a special player, and am not impatient enough to trade him until we find the "right" player(s).

As for Danny, I don't think he wants to include him in a trade that doesn't yield a better player.
The only real mistake is the one from which we learn nothing.

And Marcus' skills are VERY good for a 3rd year player too. His defensive skills are better than Kidd's were too. Did you watch him utterly destroy the Knicks the other night in the pick and roll? His pick and roll ball handling and passing is becoming elite.
The guy has been in the NBA for less than 2 and a half seasons. He works his ass off.
Look at Avery. Marcus is already a great player and he's only going to get better at every facet of the game.

We have a player that should make an All defensive team and is only 22 years old and in his 3rd year.
Patience people.

"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.

What is the right price? If the answer is Okafors and Zach Lavines of the worlds, then no.

How is Marcus a "Great" Player. If he is a great player what is Demarcus Cousins.

I think this is why Marcus is so controversial. Completely one way on each side of the spectrum. Either he is really not that great, or he is some kind of potential legend in the making.

Issue is he is a great teammate and defender but he can't shoot or score. His fg% is record level bad and his defense is all NBA. He is the Rodman of PGs right now IMO. But he is young so that is what this thread is about. Don't give up on him just because of his current flaws.

Great comparison, really hope we can see him develop
Jaylen Brown for All-NBA
