I dont understand your implication that balls are the issue.

Ainge has been a fairly risky trader in the past.

I love Horford. He's a smart, productive player and is a good teammate / citizen. He's only overpaid if you ignore the market.

He's not a top-15 player, but he's really good.
Spot on. He's incredibly smart and versatile but he's not the top 10 player who people thought would make us world beaters.

Don't know why anyone thought he would make us world-beaters, he was never supposed to be that type of a player. He's excellent , and as Roy said, if you consider the market value, he is certainly not overpaid.
Considering how versatile and smart he plays he is definitely worth the price tag.

I think people are just getting emotional that the team is not what they thought it would be with getting Horford. Perhaps not world beaters but most thought we jumped past Toronto by getting Horford but we didn't. Probably another 2-3 other teams worse then Toronto we didn't pass either.

When we are paying someone 26 million stinking dollars, I expect above average play in ALL four quarters!!  Am I asking too much here???  I think NOT!!!

Smitty77

Yes, you are.

That's just not how it works.

Paying a player a certain amount doesn't change who they are.  The Celts are paying Horford to be exactly what he has been.

Indeed, he's playing better than expected given how involved he's been in creating for others (again, 5.9 assists per 36).

And he's shooting more threes at a higher clip. Probably has room for improvement too.

LOL at the suggestion that Al is the source of our stuttering start.

Horford made a couple of bad plays down the stretch that cost us, sure, but he's been our best player this year.

It didnt help that Rozier was not in position to receive that pass, then Rozier didnt properly foul the guy with the ball on the next play, resulting in a 2 PT dunk by OKC. Bradley and Amir let Westbrook waltz to the hoop on the go-ahead basket. On top of it all, Brad Stevens kept the starters on the bench waaaaayyy to long in the 4th. He should have had them back in there much earlier.

This team is going through some growing pains, Rozier and Brown have been asked to play significant roles early on, and Smart is a key rotation guy. They are all too young and need to mesh better with Horford and Crowder and IT. It will take some time.

It makes perfect sense to compare mistakes by Rozier, a guy that has played a TOTAL of 744 regular season minutes to Horford, who has played over 18,000 regular season minutes, not to mention all of his playoff minutes.

And he is apparently NOT clutch:-(((

Tough loss but let's not blame Al Horford.

He's been big for us in a few games too.

He fits in well in Boston.

I'd rather cry over losses in May or June than ones before Winter even gets here.

This thread idea is absurd. Horford is a prototype Celtic. Very team oriented. To blame him for loss tonight just dumb.

Yeah, what Roy said, 100%.  26 mil doesn't go as far as it used to unfortunately, the market has adjusted.

The other thing that we all want to forget, is that bringing Horford here was part 1 of a 2 part free agency that included netting Durant as the prize for bringing on Horford.  We lost out on the big prize, but got the smaller prize.  Just because we haven't got our alpha dog yet, doesn't mean we should expect Horford to be that player.  He is still really good.

My point is NOT that Al is a bad player, but that he is NOT in any way, shape, or fashion, clutch!!!  For $26 million, I would expect more.  That is what I am saying.  Do I think that he can get better in that regard?  Yes.  Clearly, he has not been asked to be the alpha male as a pro in Atlanta.  I hope he can turn the corner on that as KG was finally able to do, even if he did so reluctantly.

Horford is probably the least likely guy to move on this team.  I think he's fine but we could also end up like the hawks if we aren't careful.

Horford is really good and versatile.  He isn't exactly a true inside presence though. He does move around good and blocks shots and rebounds and passes and ranges out and brings the complete game.  Gives us toughness etc.  He's a tough guy but not a true low post player.  He does post up and can pass and score inside.

He's a really versatile new age center.  I like him and how he fits here.  He needs help down there though.  Amir is basically useless and we dont even use him.  So is Kelly for that matter. Kelly  has his moments at least.
