Maybe it's the system and coaching.  Ever think having a pg hogging the ball all the time or havin a coach let you shoot 3's instead of post up might be the problem?  Something wrong when David lee looks like an all star on another team

Perhaps sign Dwight Howard? He can now shoot from midrange and he's still a great inside presence. If we offered a 4 year max deal to him I bet we could've gotten him instead of Atlanta signing him on a 2 year deal. He would be a much better partner with IT due to his ability to just roll into the basket on pick and rolls and just score almost every time as well as protect the rim and rebound.

Horford is a good player that will help this team.  But he is proving to be not worth the money we spent.  Every discussion last summer about signing him was around his large price tag.  I'm assuming Ainge and the front office expected that spending the money wouldn't matter if they had a gotten two big name players (Durant) so overspending on Horford would've matter as they would have become instant contenders.  Obviously, it didn't happen and now the team's future is hampered by a big contract on an aging super role player.  I hope we can acquire a top 10 player that can score to take the pressure off Horford and Thomas because it has become too easy for top teams to shut down our top options.  Last night's game in Cleveland is the perfect example.  Also, Horford's shot has been atrocious this past month, what happened?

Well Atlanta lost teague and their guys got older (milsap is 31, korver is like 34) while Houston last year froze out howard on offense. You aren't going to win a ton of games when you're playing 4 on 5 on offense. It was a miracle that they won 41 games last year

Hate to say it but it's games like tonight that make me think, can we trade this guy now before he becomes untradeable? Like a Horford for Lopez deal just to escape 4 years of this. Lol Crazy I know but 1 rebound in a big game is unacceptable. Guy was a shadow out there. He even added to his growing rep of turning the ball over in the clutch.

I never wanted Horford unless he came with Durant. He looks good at times but also looks very bad. He isn't a franchise/max player but he is getting  $ like it so that is a bad move by DA regardless. Still despite all that where would this team be without him I wonder. 14-19 probably. So hate on him getting over paid but with him on the team C's at least don't suck.

I find a lot of this complaining about Horford to be nonsense. The only rotation player with better +/- numbers is Crowder. The team's record without Horford is only 5-5 and their record with him is 14-9. He's a sub-par rebounder, sure, but that's always been his weakness. On the flip side, he's averaging over 2 blocks and 5 assists per game. No other player in the league is doing that.

This team has problems but Horford is not one of them.

Sure, but Malcolm Delaney is their backup PG playing 16 mpg.  They basically replaced Teague, Splitter, and Horford with Howard and Delaney.  Muscala went from a bit player to a key rotation cog.  Bazemore forgot how to shoot (or maybe he just played well last year because it was a contract year).  All that said the Hawks aren't that much behind last year's pace on pace for 41 wins when they won 48 last year.  A couple of games here or there and they are right back on last year's pace (or obviously way worse if the games go the other way).

I have been suggesting that Horford will get traded and I generally get the "you're nuts, we didn't sign him just to trade him" replies.  I don't think he gets traded this year.  In fact I think the Thomas-Horford team stays together at least through the 2017-18 trade deadline. After that season, we probably lose Thomas and start to build around Smart, Brown, Zizic, Lonzo Ball(?) and whoever we get with the 2018 lottery pick.

That is why signing Horford is not a bad thing.  We gave up nothing for him.  He is not blocking us signing anyone for this season and probably next.  And we can always trade him for something.  So in the end, we get a couple of seasons of more competitive basketball and then probably some decent young players in return when we trade him to a contender.

If we didn't sign him, we have nothing but a little more money in the bank and a team that struggles to make the playoffs.  He is overpaid, he isn't a "star", but that is not the point.  This deal will not hurt us.

Good observation.  I think Howard could have helped us and in some ways been a better fit than Horford but I am not down on the Horford signing.  Howard brings negative intangibles, there is no doubt about that.  It has been true every where he has been.
